Poll: When did you stop using a stroller?

Answering the previous post made me wonder what the average is. Thought it might be helpful for MoMs with younger babies/expecting MoMs too, for planning purposes. For those who are no longer using a stroller (or very infrequently, like a few times a year) for your multiples, what age did you stop? Please answer for multiples only since that may affect your answer.

Re: Poll: When did you stop using a stroller?

  • For us, it was right around 2.5. I started thinking about it right around when they turned 2, but one of my boys was a runner and REALLY bad about it from 2-2.5, and the other would get scared walking in crowded places and want to be held ... so the double stroller was much easier. Around 2.5, they were finally good about holding hands and staying with me. Since then we've used it less and less--for the zoo, occasionally for a long shopping trip, etc.

ETA: I'm guessing by the low number of votes that the number of post-stroller MoMs on this board is even lower than I thought. ;) So far the responses seem about like what I thought from talking to other MoMs though; stroller usually gets ditched around 2-2.5 for everyday use.

  • We're still using a stroller almost every day at 2 years old, so I did not vote.

I've been waiting to make a decision about a new stroller with my singleton arriving in two months.  I am trying to get my girls used to holding my hands in parking lots.  If the walk is farther than 20 feet, temper tantrums kick up because they want to run and not hold my hand.  I was daydreaming about being able to ditch the double stroller for a single stroller, but it does not look like that is a realistic daydream!

Oh, that would be tricky! I hope your girls get better about it soon. So do you think you'll put your girls in the double stroller and wear the new baby at first?

  • I feel so strange now! We ditched it awhile ago. They were probably 14 months old? They are horrendous when  they are in it. I think they just don't like being cooped up. So we use their wagon, carts at stores, and harnesses when we are out and about.

  • I voted 2.5-3...

but even now I still use it a few times/month...I am alone a fair amount with the girls and I still like to have the option to strap them in if all he!! breaks loose when it's time to leave somewhere...plus, I have runners...

Wow, that's amazing! One of my boys started walking right at 14m and the other at almost 16m. I guess if you always use another containment method (wagon, carts, etc.) I can see it though. My boys actually still do pretty well in the stroller, to my surprise.

Yes, in the beginning I am planning to stay with the double stroller and wear the baby.  I do not want to fork over money for a triplet stroller, with the chance that my twins will start to rebel against the stroller at any time.  I'm also toying with the idea of a Sit n' Stand, if I can convince at least one twin to walk with me.  Fun fun fun :)

  • My boys are about to be 2yrs and I don't see us ditching it anytime soon. They prefer double shopping carts & their wagon, but they still need to be contained. They're both "runners" in stores & parking lots. I HOPE by 2.5 they'll stay by me. That would be great!
  • Mine are 21 months and I see no end to the stroller in sight. If I'm somewhere with MH we can go without the stroller but if I'm alone, they need to be contained. DS is both a runner and a sitter. So he will run off, but, he'll also randomly sit when he's tired of walking, without saying he wants to be held, so the harnesses aren't a great option.

Mine hated being contained in anything around 14 months (I think it's just the age) but we just powered through, distracted with snacks and drinks, and they now know that going out alone with mommy = stroller, unless we're going for neighborhood walks, which can be the wagon or maybe harnesses.

  • Oohhh, good question.  I've often wondered at what age I'd ditch the stroller.  I can't wait to see the answers.  I plan to use our stroller until the boys are in high school...or maybe when they become stronger than me...or maybe just when they outgrow it.  Either way I'll be sad they are no longer containable when needed.

I wonder if when they start walking has something to do with it. My guys started at 11m/12m. And Jimmy pretty much took off running, LOL! But I bet that has something to do with it.

  • Yeah, probably! Though even then, we kept using a stroller for well over a year after they started walking; for us it was just so much easier, especially when I was on my own with them! (Though now that they hold hands and listen better, I don't miss the stroller at all.) I'm impressed it's worked for you though!

  • Our boys are 2 and 4, and the 4 old year still uses the stroller when we go somewhere with a lot of walking or he's eating food.  I like having them contained when I'm by myself although they don't always stay in.
