Tummy sleeper

So dd has only slept in her crib the first week and that was a struggle. We ended up taking turns sleeping with her in the chaise until the dr suggested having her sleep in her carseat. This was suggested because she was 6.3 at birth then dropped to 5.13 before we came home and it was thought she just needed that extra snuggle at night. It worked wonders. We then found a fisher price easy fold and have been using it ever since. Well she absolutely will not sleep on her back whether it's on the floor or her crib. She will however sleep on her belly perfectly! Has anyone broke down and let their lo sleep on their belly at night?

Re: Tummy sleeper

  • Yep, DD started sleeping on her belly at 4 weeks, and went from 20 minute naps to 2 hour ones. I understand people's hesitation so I never outright recommend it, but its worked out for us.

    This for us too

  • Yes, we had the same issue and he wouldn't sleep on his back unless he was in the bed with us and I didn't want to co-sleep. This wasn't that much of an issue until after he was over 2 months.  The first month he slept in his rock and play, so he could be close to me.  I use to do the struggle of getting him to sleep on his back, swaddled and unswaddled, and he would have to be knocked out to be put down that way.   If he woke up we had to start the cycle all over again so eventually I broke down and let him sleep like that at night.  It was nerve wreaking and I was constantly going to check on him (I still do).

He has always had great neck control since week 1 and he's rolling over from tummy to back (started around week 6).  If he wasn't rolling over yet I probably wouldn't have done it.

All this being said I won't recommend it but we're doing it.

  • Yes, DS will only sleep on his tummy except when I breastfeed him in bed, he'll fall asleep on his side. When he first started sleeping on his stomach, I was paranoid, but now I'm confortable with it and he sleeps just fine.
