December 2011 Moms

packed up the pump today :)

The students come back tomorrow, so that's when work "really" starts for me.  I decided last week that I was no longer going to pump at work.  My schedule this year is awful and it would really stress me out to try to fit it in to an already crammed day.  Last week, I just pumped once a day and over the weekend, we tried formula during the daytime to make sure he would take it.  He's doing ok with it so far.

I have enough frozen BM to last a few days at DC and I still plan to BF in the morning and evening hours.  It's a bit sad for me to stop because I really wanted to make it EBF for a year, but I'm very proud I made it almost 9 months, especially since I'm a working mom.  And I will admit, it was a bit nice to be able to hand him over to someone else for a feeding without having to worry about pumping.

Thankfully, my body has adjusted well and from about 7am to 4pm, I no longer get uncomfortably full if I don't BF or pump.  I know it's going to make my life at work A LOT easier, and give me a little more freedom on the weekends.

  • Oh Lab, your amazing for having gone as long as you did especially at work. You will still be providing him with the goods, just not as often. That alone is still something to be proud of. I plan to go to a year but with work starting next week and my dispising pumping, I might not make it. I'm so glad the transition was smooth for you and koodos for a job well done!!!!!

  • Congrats on making it 9 months!!  And...you're not done yet!  I hope that you find part time BFing to be just as rewarding...without the stress of pumping.  Teaching is such a hard job to pump with...we really have no control over our schedules.  I'm glad to hear that little A is transitioning well!!

Hope your first day with students goes well!

  • Pumping with a work schedule is so freaking hard- it's no wonder so many women don't get to EBF as long as they'd like when there are so many things like pesky work thrown into the mixStick out tongue  You did so well and now you'll just get to do the really enjoyable parts of nursing and not the PITA part of pumping.  GL with your students back!!

  • You're doing AWESOME!!!!  You'll find as much as you wanted to EBF that the stress you're reducing on yourself is well worth it!  I'd have loved to make it 9mo this time around even with just supplementing but it wasn't meant to be.  You're still going strong by the way it sounds even if you aren't pumping!!!
