The meaning of a name will completely sway my opinion of a name, negative or positive. I have a name book called "Name Book" by Dorothy Astoria in which the name Leah means gazelle. I have only heard it mean weary or cow in the past. Has anyone ever heard it have the meaning gazelle before?
Which brings me to the spelling Lia which is Greek and means bringer of good news.
Anyway, I would just like some opinions on Leah/Lia.
Re: Leah/Lia
I think if you went with "Lia", she'd forever be correcting people on how to spell her name. That might not bother you, I don't know... but for me, it's definitely more appealing to go with Leah and save her the trouble.
I've heard of Leah meaning gazelle before! It's my daughter's middle name (and my mom's, and her mom's...). Here's the definition from Urban Dictionary:
my name is Lya (same pronunciation)....while i did/do have to correct some people as to how to say it, it doesnt bother me that much...i love my name (it's also a family name - my grandmother's & her grandmothers)...so that makes me love it more.
that being said...i think I prefer Lia more...but probably b/c it's a little different, like mine!
