Any LO use a pillow?

My MIL has been insisting that my DS use a small flat pillow when sleeping. He is 9 weeks old but she has been mentioning it since he was born. I've always put it off but now that he is a bit older I'm wondering if anyone else does it? She said it would be more comfortable for him.

Sheesh, I feel like all of my posts on here are asking questions about what my MIL suggests. Am I the only one with a MIL that won't mind her own business and just let me raise my child how I want??!?

Re: Any LO use a pillow?

  • Nope. There's nothing in the crib except my LO.

  • Absolute SIDS risk! No pillows or stuffed animals to sleep with. We have a little stuffed dog that LO likes to grab on to, but we take it if he falls asleep with it

  • You might try wedging up one end of the mattress slightly (with a towel, books, or a store-bought wedge under the mattress) to help appease the MIL. To me it looks more comfortable than trying to sleep flat, plus it is supposed to help with reflux/spit-up. I would definitely be wary of using a pillow, especially when the LO's are going to start rolling over soon.

  • Nope, nothing in his bed except baby and a paci in the corner.

I read that it is not recommended to give LO a pillow until about age 2. MIL is wrong on this one!

  • No way total SIDS risk.  With DD #1 nothing was in the crib until she was 12 months.

  • We do not use a pillow and probably will not for some time.  Her mattress is elevated though and always has been.  I would not use one with the risk of SIDS.
  • Nope, I don't plan on using a pillow til LO's doctor says its okay. And your not the only one with a MIL who knows everything...I hate it I let it go in one ear & out the other.
  • Nope.  We didn't use a pillow with DD until she was about 2y/o.
