Little boys dolls

M loves everything I do. He loves to watch me paint my nails and do my makeup. When we go shopping he loves to play with the high heels and put my necklaces on him.

He also has found some of my dolls from when I was a little girl. He carries them around and says "b" for baby over and over. DH saw him do that yesterday for the first time and was not happy. He said I am allowing him to be too girly.

I'm very frustrated by this and see nothing wrong with letting him explore.

If you have a boy do you let them play with dolls? Would you ever by them a boy doll?

Re: Little boys dolls

  • At this age I see no issue with it. My H probably wouldn't be thrilled if I gave Q a doll either but forcing gender roles isn't my style. I would worry, once he got a little older that he would get made fun of.

I would give him plenty of cars and trucks and whatever "boy" stuff to play with as well and let him play with what he wants to play with. At this age, children just want to imitate their parents, and mom is the one around more. Tell your H to spend more time doing manly stuff around him if he's concerned.

  • It is very age/developmentally appropriate. They have them in preschool classes for both genders. Yes, my DS has recently started playing with dolls. I let him and would get him his own. That being said, my husband is the same as yours....thinks its girls. But I know better!

  • I don't think it's a big deal.  My nephew was also born in Sept, and his favorite toy at my parents' house is a doll.  He goes straight for it when he gets there.  And my 3 brothers played with dolls and My Little Ponies as kids, and I played with Hotwheels and dumptrucks.  It didn't affect anything.

  • I would absolutely buy J a doll if he expressed interest in it.  My H would probably be a little uncomfortable at first, but it's all a learning tactic on how to be gentle and nice and loving.  We're training him to be as good as a daddy as his daddy!

  • I absolutely would let him play with a doll. My mom who only has grandsons even has a pink play stroller at her house in the play room for them. My older nephew got wanted a barbie & ken (albeit the ones from Toy Story because he loved that movie) for his 'giving up his pacifier' presents and my sister got it for him, no biggie.

  • I don't see a problem with it.  If he played with one it would be more than I ever did.  I hated dolls.  I only ever owned a few when I was very young.  They were all gifts that always found their way to the bottom of the toy box.

  • Yes! There is a great plush boy skateboarder doll..my nephew loved it. I called it the jake doll cuz it reminded me of my brother but I'm not sure that is its name.
