Vicks Rectal Thermometer question

Do any of you use the Vicks baby rectal thermometer?  I can't find the instruction manual for ours and am finding conflicting information online.  Do I subtract a degree from how it reads or does it convert on its own?  Please advise.  Thanks.

Re: Vicks Rectal Thermometer question

  • Are you using it rectally? I would go by the temperature on the thermometer. We were told by the pedi and hospital an under arm temp is reliable and not to add a degree. Our auxiliary temps have matched her rectal temps when she's been sick.

  • We have that thermometer.  The rectal temp on the thermometer should be the correct one.  We always take it under her arm first and add a degree, only if its above 101 will I double check rectally.  So far, the under arm plus a degree has always been right on with rectal reading.  Fortunately though, I've only had to do this a couple of times.
