Am I the only person who didn't know that it is highly discouraged to use baby powder anymore??? I learned this yesterday in a child care class I took (yes I'm a FTM). Apparently it can cause respiratory issues. Now, granted I roll my eyes at alot of these "potential dangers" because they seem so paranoid.......but I still don't want to take any risks. Geez....I'm turning into such a mom......
Anyways, just wanted to pass this info along to anyone who may not know. I did some research and didn't find too many studies on the subject. But did read multiple times that pediatricians do not recommend using baby powder.
Re: Baby Powder
It's really good for keeping ants away though... You just spread it around your entranceways :
Eh. I never used it once anyway. Ever.
Only use I have for it is removing sand at the beach!

Can someone explain why people use baby powder at all? Is it supposed to absorb moisture and prevent rashes? I keep telling my BF that we don't need to use baby powder b/c it's not safe anymore, but he doesn't believe me and still wants to use it. But I don't really know enough about what it's used for keep arguing about it LOL I'll probably get a small container of the corn-starch based so he can use it if he wants.
You would use it to absorb moisture, keep things dry and un-chafed. The concern is that if the powder is aspirated (inhaled) the powder can cause an aspiration pneumonia. Chronic exposure to talc dusts can cause fibrosis. Corn starch is easier for the body to handle, though with any "dust" can be respiratory irritant. No real need for the stuff IMO
