Howell has been having lots of wet diapers but no poop in over 48 hours. He isn't complaining and his belly is soft. When should I begin to worry? When he pooped in the hospital they were always huge.
Are you breastfeeding? I would call his pedi. We were told (and given paperwork) that said that by day 3-4, he should be having 6-8 poop diapers a day. On day 3, my son had only given us one and it ended up being that he had been dehydrated/wasn't getting enough milk. I pumped, gave him bottles the rest of the day, and he started pooping his brains out. I don't recommend that you decide to pump on your own though - I only did it because my pedi recommended it, and it ended up causing nipple confusion and now I pretty much EP because he won't latch on without a nipple shield.

My milk came in today so I wonder if that's it. He gets enough that he will spit up after feeding. Yesterday the pedi was not worried and said sometimes it takes awhile for the bowels to fill up after the meconium but it's driving me nuts.
My little girl is three weeks old, and she only goes every other day. The pediatrician told us it is common for them to go 48 hours without pooping. But I would still call your doctor if it's a concern.

This happened to us. Once my milk came in he started pooping. Pedi wasn't worried either.

My little guy pooped a lot in the hospital, but when we got home wasn't popping much at all. He was extremely uncomfortable and straining in pain trying. He'd go 2-3 days. My pedi said if he was happy and not uncomfortable, and still wetting diapers and gaining weight, that it was perfectly fine for a BF baby to go even every 5+ days, but she was concerned because he was in pain. She put her finger up his little butt hole and said it was pretty tight. It stretched it out a little (he screamed like crazy) and he bled/pooped, and she said that he should have an easier time going now. He's now gone once a day for the past three days. I'm not sure if that did the trick, but I think it helped. I wouldn't worry though if he's not complaining and goes in the next day or so.

our son went about 4 days without a poop when we first brought him home. i was kinda worried and then in the middle of the night i couldn't get him to eat. he went 6 hours without eating and was screaming his head off. my husband broke down and got some formula and we gave him a bottle. sure enough he was starving and dehydrated which is why he wasn't pooping. it took about another day but he finally did poop after constant feedings every couple of hours. you may want to see an LC as well. our problem wasn't supply so much as his latching. we've been working on it since then and things are much better. i hope to be able to stop using formula soon but he is a really good eater and my supply just can't keep up with his appetite.

This happened to my girl too. Once milk came in, she let rip some HUGE poops on day 5. Nothing for the three days before that. Feed your LO as much as he wants to eat and it will work itself out!
Re: Baby hasn't pooped in two days.
