Cloth Diapering

Wipe Warmer ?

For those of you who use wipe warmers with cloth wipes, what's your routine?  I have a Prince Lionheart Warmies one.  At first we used the antimicrobial pillow that came with it, but it became yucky and we ditched it.  For awhile we put water on each cloth wipe and wrung out the excess water.  Now we mostly use the warmer to warm the water and have a wipe or two in the warmer at a time.  We mostly just use water for our routine since DD only has dirty diapers every few days and we often just give her baths after messy ones (guess I don't trust lots of the baby washes enough either).  DD has never had diaper rash or any such problems, but the wipe warmer seems to stink no matter what I do.  We've cleaned it, let it air out, and so forth, but it always seems to stink!  I'm wondering if I need to make new wipes or use something other than water.  Maybe I'm using the warmer entirely wrong or something!  TIA!

Re: Wipe Warmer ?

  • I use the pillow it came with. When I'm out of wipes, I take the pillow out, wet it, and ring it out. Then I wipe down the warmer with a clean, dry wipe and add the pillow back in. I put a stack of wipes in and pour enough water on top of them to moisten them without saturating them.

  • I have a different warmer, with no pillow thing..   But what I do is fold a stack of washcloths, wet them, wring them out, and place them in the warmer.  It's about 2 days' worth.  Every so often, when I remember, I wipe it out with vinegar.  No stinkies.  No problems.  Been using for about 6 months now.
  • I have a PL Warmies wipe warmer as well.  I use the pillow at the bottom too and clean it when I change the wipes.  I replace it about once a month or once every two months if it starts looking gross.  You have to keep it wet otherwise it burns at the bottom!

I refill wipes probably every other day.  I take a bunch of wipes and wet them, ring them out and roll them up.  I have my wipes solution in a peri bottle and i squirt some of that on top of them once they are all in the warmer (I think that also helps to keep the pillow moist)

We've really never had an issue with the warmer with this routine!

  • Clean out your warmer with some solution with Tea tree oil in it then add 1-3 drops of tto to your water.  That will keep all mildew/mold and smells away. (also good for babies who have a tendency to yeast infections (like my daughter), TTO kills yeast spores.

If the house ain't burned down and the baby's fed it was a successful day. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
