How many of you have heard or been told that you are supposed to gain 24 pounds in the first 24 weeks of a multiple pregnancy. I am 19 weeks and have only gained 11, so I was curious about this.
I gained like 18 in 20 weeks. I was trying to go by Dr. Luke's recommendations. my OB was not on board with Dr. Luke and made me feel like a total fatass. However, after I gained that 20 I only gained about 5 pounds over the next 14 weeks. Between weeks 34 and 37 I gained like 20 pounds of water weight. It was miserable, but I had big healthy babies and 2 weeks after they were born I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight.
I've heard it. I didn't gain anything by 14w (I started having thyroid problems when I got pg). I gained 16 lbs by 24w and a total of 34 pounds when I delivered at 36w5d. I was below what my MFM and OB wanted, but I did the best that I could. My boys were born at 5lb3oz and 6lb5oz.

I tried to follow that guideline, and made it. I had only gained 2 lbs by 12w (when I found out I was having twins, and read Dr. Luke's book a few weeks later) but I gained a pretty steady 2 lbs/wk after that.
I did, I am up to 35 pounds at 27 weeks. Yikes. But a lot of that has shot up since I have been on bedrest since 21 weeks. I gained 20 by 20 weeks, and then the last in just the last 7. But I think it is slowing down already. My OB and MFM are happy with it, though, I just feel huge already!
I think I was a 24 pound by 20 weeks. God, I miss frozen waffles. I gained 60 pounds by the end and have lost all but 4 pounds.

I've heard it, but I don't think I am going to make it. I may not gain that much by birth. I am overweight to begin with so I have plenty of extra for the babies to snack on.
I gained 15-ish pounds during IVF so I am not sure exactly what my starting weight was, but I don't think I really gained any weight from 0-14 weeks. Then I gained 7 lbs from 14-18 weeks. Although that was partly based on the increase of Taco Bell in my diet. For some reason, it is all I wanted to eat. Now, I am up maybe another 2 lbs. Not exactly sure.
From here, eating is getting harder since my stomach is squished. My guess it I will gain another 10-15 lbs of babies and fluid so I will probably top out at 25lbs.
Who knows? The girls are measuring big for their age so my OB isn't worried about it

My docs didn't necessarily tell me to hit those numbers, but that targeting 2800 cal/day was ideal -- and at this point, I've put on ~18 lbs at close to 20 weeks, so I'd say I'm more or less on track to hit the 24 by 24 rule of thumb. And, I still exercise 4-5 days a week, so technically if I weren't active, I would only have needed like 2400 cals/day to hit that -- which isn't all that outrageous. I think my body just started packing on the weight (literally at week 13 or so, I was putting on 2+ lbs/week for 2-3 weeks -- which has leveled out a bit since) without much prompting needed from me.

I just had an appointment last night at 21 weeks and 1 day. Apparently I've gained 19 lbs so far. I was kind of shocked since everyone keeps telling me how "tiny" I look. I'm not on a special diet. I eat as healthy as I can, as often as I can stand it.
The doc didn't seem to care about the weight either way, even though I asked if it was on track.
I guess if you think of it as you're more than halfway through the pregnancy, another 19 lbs would put me right at 40...plus all that water weight i expect to gain at the end. I could be ok with hat.
I don't think there is really a hard and fast rule. I only gained 28 the entire pregnancy and my docs were happy (and so was I). But I was overweight to begin with.
As of my 28 week regular OB appointment the other day, I've gained ~30lbs, give or take. None of the doctors (I see a group) have ever said anything to me about a guideline nor have they ever commented on my weight. Per the MFM, who I also saw this week, the babies are growing right on track for singletons at this fetal age.
As a PP said, I find it increasingly difficult to eat big meals these days, so I try to keep my snacks filling and/or protein-rich (yogurt, granola bars, cottage cheese, etc.).
I wouldn't worry too much about guidelines as long as your babies are on track.
I am overweight to begin with and thanks to morning sickness, I have only gaine 5 in 16 weeks. Actually at my last visit, I had lost a pound in three weeks. My doctor isn't worried and when I asked about 24 in 24, he said he only wants me to aim for 35 total so not to try and just pack on weight as long as the babies are measuring what they should. I know all doctors are different though.

My goal was 25 lbs by 25 weeks, and I achieved that. I was normal to underweight to start, focused on getting lots of protein, and gained somewhere between 40 and 50 lbs total. My girls were both 6 lbs. when born at 34w5d.

After reading Dr. Luke's book 24 in 24 was my goal and I made it! I focused on eating small, but often, and making sure there was protein each time I ate. I probably gained the most from weeks 18 to 23. I had only gained about 10lbs by week 15/16. Over the last several weeks, though, I really feel like I've slowed down. In fact, my appetite has changed drastically--eating is now a chore and I fill quickly. I'm glad I put on the weight when I did. We'll see in a few months if it helped make big babies!

I didn't make that, but I did start putting on weight fast soon after. I gained a total of 55 lbs, and have lost 60lbs.
I'm not sure I had even gained 11 lbs by 19 weeks.
