...passing on to your child? I know a lot of parents relish the genetic tie to their child (eyes like mine, same mannerisms etc), but I lately I have found myself noticing things I'm really glad I won't be passing on. Some serious, some light-hearted.
On the serious side, I'm glad I won't be passing on our family histories of heart issues and cancer.
On the lighter side I'm glad we won't be passing on our total musical inability. We both love music, but can't sing worth crap or play an instrument. DH can't even sing and clap simultaneously at church! It's pretty bad.
And we are also both horrible at math so we hope our little man will be inclined to math and not need any sort of help with his homework!
What about you?

Laparoscopy scheduled December 2013
Re: What kinds of things are you really glad you WON'T be...
Me - my migraines, bad eyesight
DH - the heart issue we had to deal with last year, bad eyesight (yes, him, too!)
Bump Burp
My height (for a boy)
My hair (for a girl)
DH's family has lots of lady issues, so that for a daughter.
Singing ability for both of us and lack of rhythm for DH. When we knew we were going to adopt, one of the things we joked about is that "now we can have a family band!" We joke that all of our kids will be musical and DH will get a shaker with nothing in it and I will get the cowbell.

Heading to China in November 2014 to bring our son home!
On the serious side, I'm glad DD won't get DH's family history of diabetes (type I and type II are in his family at present) and sleep apnea. Or my family's heart disease traits.
On the non-physical side I'm glad DD won't inherit the ingrained negativity that comes from DH's side of the family. She's way happier than all of them combined
On the physical side- DH's family history of heart problems, on my side- thyroid problems, asthma, allergies, joint problems, etc...
Non-physical side- I am sure there are things but I can't think of them right now. Maybe I need to go be around my family and his to remember.
lol! I can relate.

Haha! My family's male pattern baldness and my husband's acne. It was really hard for him in high school.
I am also praying that we don't have or "acquire" (as one of my adoptive friends says) any more children with my personality - I was difficult to parent!
Application approved Dec '11
Mar '12: Homestudy interrupted by change in Uganda requirements - where do we go from here?
After searching and searching, back with Uganda but with our homestudy agency's program.
Homestudy complete July 19
USCIS I-600A submitted July 20. Biometrics appointments arrived Aug 17; fingerprinted Aug 21; 171H received Sept 25th. On the wait list Oct 1st: #18. By Jan 25th, we're #13!
Come home, baby A!
This.
I am kind of the opposite. No real health problems, but seeing what our BM has been going through, I don't think our LO will be as healthy as us. We are hoping it comes down to nurture vs. nature since we hope our LO will be active like we are, but only time will tell. Either way, we are prepared to deal with whatever we encounter.
The nose. My DH and I both have ridiculously large noses. Seriously. DD got lucky!
On my side of the family there's a ridiculous number of issues- weight, cancer, a genetic heart condition.
^ THIS! I have more bandaids on my arms and legs than a small child at any given time. It's so bad. Once I broke my foot... just by walking.
DD's birth parents are both tall and thin so I'm hoping she won't have our weight issues! (we do eat healthy and exercise, but genetically, DH and I are both fighting a losing battle!)
wife to joe 2.2.08. mama to noah 9.5.09.
After multiple m/c's, a MTHFR diagnosis and the Lord calling both of our hearts in the same direction, we're adopting!
