I *think* it's sciatic nerve pain

Anyone else have something like this? Even when not pg, I had nerve pain occasionally in my hip and down my leg. For the past few days it feels like nerve pain in my hip, side, vagina, buttocks and lower back. I've been doing stretches and different things to try to get the babies to move, but no relief yet. Just wondering if anyone else has had this?

  • I had it (but not when I was pregnant). It does sound like that. Mine was caused by a herniated disk, but I'm sure yours is just because of babies. Move, babies!

  • Sounds like it to me, too. I've had problems with it since the birth of DD1 and it's randomly acted up throughout this pregnancy. It really sucks. Sorry. :-( Warm baths, heating pad, and stretching can give some relief, but it's temporary. Good luck. You're nearing the finish line!

This is my siggy. Love it.

I have a herniated disk too, and it doesn't really bother me anymore *except* for during both pregnancies.

The best thing for it is lots of stretching and pay close attention to your posture. Basically what happens is a nerve in your spinal cord (that should be protected by that jelly stuff in your discs) is getting pushed out and pinched. Try focusing on standing up straighter, to push the nerve back in. Definitely hard when you are so front heavy these days, but it should help.

  • My massage therapist also addresses it.  She knows a pressure point that she "holds" that helps with my sciatic pain.  It's called the piriformis and it's located in your bum in the upper/outer quandrant on each side.  When she "locates" it and presses on it, it's shooting pain.  She holds it until the pain decreases to at least a "6" (based on my own subjective 1-10 pain scale.)  It hurts like hell when she's doing it, but ohmygoodness--what a difference after she's done it!
