I'm 5 weeks 2 days and had my first visit with my OB this morning. I had some lower abdominal pain and lower back pain and I was worried about ectopic. My OB did a transvaginal U/S and saw one circular gestational sac with a yolk sac. Next to this was what looks like an abnormally shaped gestational sac with what she thinks is a yolk sac inside of it. She said it could be 1 of 3 things:
1. This began as a twin pregnancy and one twin has failed and the gestational sac is now collapsing.
2. When my normal-looking gestational sac implanted into my uterus, it created a hematoma which may absorb into my uterus with time. If this is the case, the "yolk sac" that she saw in the abnormally shaped sac was not in fact a yolk sac at all.
3. It's twins! Just too early to tell for sure.
Anyone have any experience with this? I'm going back for a follow-up U/S next Friday, but it seems so far away ![]()
Re: Twins?
This early on, really anything can happen. When I was about 6weeks I had some spotting and a transvaginal us showed one empty sac. A week later we heard two heartbeats.
Best of luck with a healthy pregnancy, whether one or two. I know that waiting time was horrible for me, hang in there!
