RE: Baby Kidnapped from hospital---CA

I read that post below about the baby kidnapped from a Pittsburgh hospital and at the bottom of the article it said a baby had also recently been through a kidnapping attempt in Southern, CA

I live in California and this apparently happened only two weeks ago, it's disturbing to say the least. And they seem to be doing it the same way

  • I saw this when it first happened. Apparently she was faking a pregnancy to get her BF back. Thank goodness the alarm went off. The thing that freaks me out is that when we were at Cedars, the best hospital in L.A., I picked Z up once and the ankle braclet slipped right off. I wouldn't let him out of my sight after that.

  • I think even the best of security doesn't always prevent these attempts. People always think they can beat the system somehow. I'm glad that the alarm went off, but holy crap.... that would scare the living shiit out of me.

Everyone told me to have DS in the nursery a lot because it's the "only time" as a new mom that I'd have time to myself. I didn't. He stayed with me at all times unless he had to meet with the pedi.

my hospital doesn't have a well baby nursery. my baby will be with me at all times unless it needs medical attention

  • I had jokingly told DH that I was going to take a red sharpie with me to the hospital to mark the baby with every time it had to leave the room.  But reading these stories makes me really nervous.  Thankfully at our birthing class they told us several security measures to make sure we were talking to the appropriate nurses for our care and DH is allowed to go with the baby every time they take it from the room. Which I found reassuring.

  • this is so scary!! I live in CA, and I never thought about this before. Definalty going to find out what security measures are implemented at my birth hospital
  • I work for Kaiser Permanente (Sand Canyon Facility in Irvine) we have Code Secure called on a regular basis, and it's almost always a false alarm, but still taken extremely seriously.  There are drills run regularly.  One was recently run where the department I work in saw a woman running passed...my boss literally stated "I only saw a flash of pink and took off running."  Thankfully 3 other guys in our department took off after her she ran out the receiving dock.  They ended up cornering her and all she kept saying was you can't touch me, you can't touch me.  It was a security guard running a drill.  She later stated that she was scared sh*tless seeing 4 big guys coming after her.  Mind you my boss is an x marine who was in infantry.  She wasn't going to go anywhere.

I can't speak for other hospitals but I know that the hospital I work at is ready.  Just make sure that if someone comes in your room to take your baby out is wearing a badge.  They are typically color coded...ours are pink.  If they do not have a badge, or it's the wrong color, don't let them near your child.
