A(sk) M(e) A(nything): thiswillbe

Alright, folks. It's gotten a little quiet on the AMA front so I'll put myself on the chopping block. Plus it's Thursday, my boss is out of the office for 2 weeks, and I'm *so* not feeling it (work, that is) today.

Ask away!!

  • I feel like the things I would really ask you aren't things for this message board ;-)

    So let me think......

What is your favorite thing about your new house?

    You crack me up!

Favorite thing: the SPACE. Even the hallway is a foot wider than our old hallway! I feel like I'm living in a house built for a giant! And watching the kids run and play freely is totally awesome.

ETA: And our pup seems SO much happier. She's reintegrated herself back into the family areas (instead of wanting to stay outside all the time), and it really makes me happy.

Knowing that, in all likelihood, she'll die before me. And that every happy milestone after that will bring along with it sadness that she isn't there to share it with.

  • Aww, man, did I kill the mood?

Okay, I'll ask myself a question:
Did you have a "lovie" growing up? If so, what was it and do you still have it?

Why yes, yes I did. I had a blanket (no name), a fox puppet (Foxy), and a teddy bear (Snuggles). I still have all three, though they've been put away since my college days (mid-90s).

lol!  Nah....I actually stopped to think about it. Because for me that thought is always there but it definitely isn't the hardest part.  I guess I figure we're not even guaranteed to get to that point.

13 years.  Most of the time it's a total non-issue (well, with the exception of her being a liiitle old-fashioned about some things, lol!), but at other times (like when she had the mini stroke and the kids and I were following her ambulance to the hospital) it stings.

But... happy thoughts!! happy thoughts!! Smile

Yeah, true that. I thought about listing some other things, but so many of them seemed like they were more circumstantial/personality things rather than really being about age, per se. Despite how she likes to always remind me that she's "old" (her word), she's really quite spry. Wink And things like her fondness for gendered roles* and staunch beliefs regarding how adults and children should interact, etc, could come with someone of any age.

    * TRUE STORY: she once asked me if we should have her 5-year-old nephew cut the Thanksgiving turkey because everyone else in attendance at the meal (5+ adults) were women. Confused

Do you participate in any online boards solo?

What hobbies or groups do you do solo?  Do you ever wish N2A was not on this board?

Do you participate in any online boards solo?
If I did, I wouldn't mention them here, for fear N2A would stalk me there!

Just kidding!! Yes, I am on a DC board that was a spinoff of the DC nest/babies board, and there are boards I go on (Multiples on here, H&G on the other board) more frequently than S.

    imageEratMama:

What hobbies or groups do you do solo?

Ummmmm, I don't really do anything solo. Not that I couldn't if our interests diverged and I was up for it, but 99% of my time is spent at work or in life-management-mode (cooking, childcare, etc.). That last 1% I like to spend vegging on the couch with my wifey.

Now if S suddenly said she'd be willing to take the kiddos for 3 hours every weekend so I could go pursue my hobbies, I would be thrilled and probably go take a photography class or do something crafty. My creative side doesn't get enough exercise.

Loaded question!! But since you put "EVER" in there, the answer is yes. I don't really have a good venting venue in my life, and sometimes I think that means I bottle things up too much. All that being said, though, I enjoy her being on here more than I miss having this space to myself (I was on here solo for several years), so it's all good.

For this reason alone I did not want to "friend" TWB on facebook...but....

You two crack me up.  I totally understand wanting your own venting space though.  My sister and I got into the most epic fight ever in 1995 when she wanted to join the BBS (Bulletin Board System) I was active on.  Now my nerd is showing.

TWB, I know you do something with data that's maybe related to health.  Are you willing to share a little bit more about your work?

Same sex couple TTC with donor sperm.  I am 35 and carrying.  Endometriosis and DOR.
    AMH 0.5, AFC 5-8, FSH 7ish

IVF #1 - antagonist.  Empty follicle syndrome.  1 retrieved, 0 fertilized.
    IVF #2 - antagonist.  Ovulated early.  3 retrieved, 2 fertilized, 0 blasts

Lol at "epic fight"-- perfect phrase!

I do work with data, but not particularly health-related. I work for the federal government. I started as a statistician, but now I'm a manager, so I don't get to play with data much any more. I love the data parts of my job, and the feeling that I'm making a real difference in people's lives (my area's numbers are used to distribute billions of dollars in federal funds). I struggle with the manager-y stuff sometimes-- I'm a huge introvert, and have to really push myself to develop personal relationships with my staff when I'd rather be holed up in my office. :)

I can totally relate to this sentiment and its one of the biggest reasons I havent pushed to "break into" management yet.

  • Do you ever feel that it's hard with twin toddlers to give everyone what they need? Like, attentionwise?

YES. The truth of the matter is that the twins rarely get true one-on-one time with me. I try to balance my attention between them, but sometimes that just means I'm bouncing from one to the other like a ping pong ball, not giving either of them adequate quality time.

What's sad to me is that because it's the only thing I've ever known (parenting-wise), I sometimes don't even notice how fractured my attention is. I was shocked by how much Peanut chatted and giggled with me the day she was home sick. It definitely made me want to try to do more one-on-one things with each of the kiddos.
