Multiples

An Intro (as my hands are still shaking from the shock)

I found out at my six week appointment that I'm carrying twins.  I was alone as my husband had a last minute work thing come up and we needed to get our daughter to preschool.  I'm freaking out but trying to stay calm and think rationally about this.

A million things are flying through my mind and I'm trying so hard not to get ahead of myself.  Fortunately, DH is calm . . . or at least he can sound that way over the phone.

Part of my fear comes from having such a hard time with DD.  She was colicky, screamed close to 12 hours a day, and didn't STTN for over six months.  I suffered from PPD and now I just can't imagine how I'm going to manage with 3.

I plan to join you guys as I venture off on this crazy journey!

  • Aw, congrats and welcome!

You have a lot of time to get used to the idea, and you WILL manage. We have a great support network here.

  • I can't even imagine finding this out on your own!  But congratulations! :)  It took me quite some time to wrap my head around it, but now that they're here we have a blast with them.

  • Wow - congrats!  I also found out about twins at my 6 week appointment, and I was also alone - and I didn't stop shaking for about an hour!!!  They took my blood pressure about 5 minutes after they told me, and it wasn't pretty!  :-)

I don't have any children, so I can't imagine having a LO at home already and finding out.  I have read, though, that twins actually tend to learn to self-soothe sooner simply because they do not always get attention immediately when they demand it.  Hopefully this is the case with your twins (and mine!) - good luck!

  • Congrats!  I just found out yesterday that I'm having twins, too.  I'm still in shock.  I have an almost 2 yr old, too so a little bit freaked out at having twins.  OMG, what are we in for?  Hahahahahaha... I'm so glad we have this board to turn to. (We haven't told the families yet, except for SIL who was watching our bitty).

  • Congrats! I know it seems crazy, but you can do it! People are always amazed at "how I manage" but they don't realize, I don't have a choice. You'll figure it out and be amazed at what you learn how to juggle.

And then there's nothing sweeter than two little babies smiling and babbling at eat other =)

  • I share your concern. My DS was super colicky from 6weeks to 4-6months and didn't sleep through the night until 18 months old. I really hope these babies are better sleepers and no colic!! Congrats on your twins. I am still in shock at times, eventhough we did IVF so I knew there was a chance.

  • Congratulations!  Even though it's incredibly happy news, it's normal to be in shock.  It probably took a good 2 weeks for the news to really sink in for me.

  • Congratulations and welcome!  It's totally normal to be in shock/freaking out.  Breathe - you have a lot of time to prepare.  And you will manage!

  • Congrats and welcome! Some days I'm still in shock that there really are two in there, and they will be here soon. I do have to say though, since finding out at 6w4d (I actually told my DH and BFF before the first appointment that I had a feeling It was twins), we've had a lot of time to adjust and prepare. This board is wonderful to have, and is full of knowledge and experience.
  • Congrats!

The shock factor is no joke. It takes awhile to sink in and then you get to planning! This board is an awesome resource for opinions on everything from double strollers to how to get your bambinos on a schedule. It will start sinking in soon and then the elation can set in. Good luck!

This is my siggy. Love it.

  • Congratulations!  I'm still waiting for it to really sink in at 12 weeks, but the "oh sh$t" feeling will wear off sooner :)  Good luck!
