Finally broke down and took Pilar to the Ped

She had another screaming crying session for over an hour.  I broke down and took her to the pedi and he looked at me like this Confused.  His first question was "Do you think it could be teething?"  Yes dumb as$, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something else.  He gave her a check up and decided lo and behold, teething.  He recommend frozen teething ring (been doing it) and Tylenol.

I feel silly, but what are you going to do when your happy baby is sad all the time.

  • Don't worry, I think you did the right thing and I would have done the same. There is no other way for us to know what's wrong with them. Hope Pilar starts feeling better soon!

  • When Adeline was just a few weeks old, I took her to the pedi because I suspected reflux.  Her diagnosis...on her chart...was "fussy infant".

I could've kicked the pedi in the teeth.

  • I hope it eased your mind to take her to the Dr. I totally get it, when my happy baby isn't herself I am all kinds of stressed trying to figure out why.

Sometimes the pedis are so arrogant!  This wasn't her regular one and he just rubs me the wrong way.  I think he's good just arrogant.

  • At our office too the Dr and nurses will talk down to you like you are dumb and it is very annoying. We all just love our babies and want what is best for them. I'm sure they are tired of the same questions over and over from all the parents but that is their job.

  • I'm glad you got an answer and that it is one that will resolve itself.

It is a glorious day when your LO is fully fanged.

question- is it okay to routinely give tylenol when a baby seems inconsolable? i'm certain my LO is teething as he has a low grade fever alllll the time and is constantly covered in drool. he gnaws on anything he can get his hands on, or just his hands. sometimes he seems so uncomfortable, so i give him a half dose of tylenol. sure enough, 4 hours later the fussiness starts up again but i never repeat. for some reason i've convinced myself it's okay to just give one/day (though i don't do it every day).

  • I'm glad he could put your mind at ease, but don't ever feel bad for making sure your LO is ok! It gives you peace of mind and you never know if there is something else going on. Hopefully the teething won't last too long!

I was told at 3 weeks old from the pedi that I just had a "high maintenance baby" with colic. At that time I suspected silent reflux but she said she was too young to have it. 3 weeks later I called again and asked to see a different doctor in the practice and again voiced my concerns. She put her on Zantac and it helped almost over night. Colic ended 2 weeks later.
