  You are right Laura, he would make an awesome group leader. Just like not all pregnancies are the same, not all breast feeding situations are the same. It's good to have the option of talking with someone in a similar situation.

  Honestly, I don't see the big deal. Although he associates himself as a man, he is ultimately the "mother" of this child and is a woman despite the fact that he has a beard and takes hormones. I don't understand how they can say he cannot be a leader when in fact he "does" meet their requirements.

  I totally get this perspective, and on some level, I do agree.  I think his breastfeeding experience is valid and would probably be helpful to other people who want to breastfeed but do not have a lot of tissue.  However, he himself defines himself as a man and father, not as a mother, and LLL says that a leader needs to have experience "mothering" through breastfeeding.  I see people argue on here all the time that gender is how you identify, not what you have between your legs.  So it would seem that if he identifies strongly as a father, he might not be the best choice to lead a group where women who identify as mothers discuss issues related to mothering (not just necessarily the mechanics of how to breastfeed.)
