Why was I so scared of Daycare?

Anya has being going for 1 week now. They are awesome. There is video monitoring so I get to watch and they literally do everything I ask them to do. She is happy, eats well, and sleeps well.

Why was I so scared??

Does anybody else love their daycare center?

Re: Why was I so scared of Daycare?

  • Yes, I do.  I have loved it for years.  When I hear moms say that family watching LOs is so much better than a center I just don't get it.  To each their own I guess.

  • L has only been in DC for 2 weeks but I love the place! I felt like that when we went there back in February. Everyone is so nice, its clean, it smells good and L has a good time and they love her. I feel good about leaving her there.

  • I adore our center. My girls have great care providers and love going there. Sometimes my 2.5 year old will clap and cheer when we get to school.

  • for the most part, I do.  I have my issues, and some things really do drive me crazy, but I can tell they really care about DD and her well being!  I'm very happy there and even though we've moved we have no plans to change!

  • Even before DD was a twinkle in my eye, I had the impression that daycares are bad. It's all the press and the horror stories people tell. I am VERY happy with DC, because they are giving her things that I could never do. I don't know enough kids her age to socialize with, or even know where to begin teaching sign language. My little girl at 3 months has been much more exposed to textures, activity, social settings, than my niece and nephews that are family cared. I would love to have the cost savings, but the head start that she is getting is just amazing.

I have been learning sign language along with her. Each day they tell me what they work on, and I try to keep up! :)

  • It is so good to know you have a good provider.

Both of my daughters started going to an inhome daycare when they were 6 weeks old. My DD1 LOVES going. Almost everyday this summer when I go to pick her up she is playing outside with the other kids. She is happy, well cared for and our provider gives her lots of love while DH and I are at work.

We don't have any family in the area and went with our provider after my DH heard good things about her from his co-workers. I wouldn't want to use family even if we did live close to them b/c personally I think it crosses boundaries.

  • You were scared probably because your mother or someone else scolded you for not "raising" your own child and said things like their diaper will never be changed, or they will let your baby cry all day long. All my friends said day care will teach my child how to take a nap, and help with STTN!
  • I'm not balls to the walls excited about our center, but that's mostly due to the fact that the management is extremely disorganized and they do fun things like today they sent out an email telling us they've decided to close the day after Thanksgiving because of historically low attendance. Except the office building I work in, which sponsors the daycare is open that day. And therefore I will be at work as it is not a holiday, we have no family here, and I had no intention of taking vacation. This was also not in my contract, which clearly states "The center will be open all days the xx building is open." Also in the same email they announced two staff development days, also not provided for, which were previously held on days the center is already closed due to the office being closed. All of this communicated less than 12 hours after we had the monthly parent/director meeting. No way that was decided that quickly, so they didn't tell us when we would have had a mass opportunity to comment or ask questions.

I love her teachers, she's learning a ton, and she pushes me out the door every morning. That I can't fault at all. Management leaves a lot to be desired.

  • LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our center!  If I were to get a new job, it would be located near this center b/c I don't want to move my kids. I have seen major advancements in DD1 since she started 2 yrs ago vs. the in home DCP (she was awful tho and no representation to other in homes)

It sounds like you found an awesome place too.  The video monitoring rocks!

  • Of course I love it.  I wouldn't send DD there if I didn't.  It's a fantastic center that DD loves, with great teachers and curricula.
