My mom is super excited to throw me a shower tomorrow with some family members and family friends. Small group--maybe around 12 people.
Anyway, she told me today that her shower favor gifts are $5 gift cards to Wal-Mart. I just feel kinda weird about that! I hate Wal-Mart (even though I won't be getting a card, just personal feelings).
On the one hand, shower favors are usually some cute little things, like bath soaps or spa items. On the other, I can see how those are kinda useless and perhaps people will be glad to get a GC that they can spend on what they want. Buuuuutttt..it's freakin' Wal-Mart! What if people don't want to shop there? Plus, the GC just advertises how much you spent on the favor gift and it just seems weird.
Okay as you can see I'm very conflicted on this! Not that it matters--she's the host and made the decisions, so I'm just gonna sit back and eat cake. What sayest thou?
Re: Is this tacky? re: baby shower favors
I don't know that it's tacky, although it's definitely strange, but personally I wouldn't want one. I never, ever shop at Walmart, so it would be a complete waste.
I usually prefer to do some kind of food as favors (chocolate, candies, etc) because they stand a better chance of actually being consumed.
I agree that it's not tacky, but just a little weird.
but maybe I only think it's weird b/c I've never been to a shower and received that as a favor before, KWIM? Maybe your mom is starting a cool new trend
But as the last PP's said, I could definitely put it to use. I hate WM too, but I live in a small town now and that is pretty much my only choice for major grocery/random shopping, so I know I would use it!!
