July 2011 Moms

do you still....

Rock your LO to sleep.

I'm guily.  I love it and don't want to give it up.  DS has been a bad sleeper forever and he's needed to be rocked.  I don't know how he will go down without doing it.  I try not to put him down totally asleep, hopefully that will make it easier in the long run.

Re: do you still....

  • I do.  She is really long and I am really short (she takes after DH) so sometimes she cannot get her legs comfortable.  When that happens I lay her down and rub her back and sing to her until she falls alseep.  I guess we will eventully transition to only that, but I plan on following her lead.

  • I'm guilty, shoot I still nurse her to sleep. Although, we have been working on it. If she wakes up as I lay her down I kiss her goodnight, tuck her in and leave. After about 4 tough nights she will usually fuss for a minute and then put herself to sleep. I am very much dreading when I stop bedtime nursing.

  • I also still nurse to sleep.  I never thought I'd do it but I just love it so I do it.  LO seems to be ok with it too. ;-)

  • We do not. If we even try to rock him, he just squirms and points at his crib and grunts a lot like he's struggling to get away. It's sad really that he wants to be so independent. Usually we just lay him down and he sticks his bottom up in the air and goes right to sleep. It's nice to not have to deal with him fussing, but sometimes I wish he would just let me snuggle him a little.

  • I nurse and rock her before bed, but she rarely falls asleep in my arms.  She usually finishes eating pushes me away, and I put her in her crib with her paci.  Every once and a while she passes out while rocking if she is really tired.

  • He doesn't get rocked to sleep but he gets a small bottle before bed. He's never been one to hold his bottles so we can some snuggle time on the couch while he drinks his milk and then I put him to bed. I love it though :)

  • I still rock and nurse to sleep. I have to start working in her sleeping on her own and in her crib since LO 2 is on it's way.

  • I nurse him to sleep, H rocks him. Considering he thinks naps are for weaklings he needs some help winding down.  I'm not sure what would happen if I just laid him down but I imagine nobody would be happy.

He is asleep within 10mins if I time it right with his sleepy cues so I don't want to mess with something that works. I've heard a lot of moms report by 2yrs a lot of kids stop nursing to sleep. I am sort of dreading that day because it's so darn easy lol.

  • Yes. Still rock her for naps and bedtime. I just don't think CIO would work for her, she would be like "Whoa! mom left me here in the crib to PARTY ALL NIGHT!!"

Not sure what I'm gonna do moving forward, but I plan on rocking her down until it gets really uncomfortable LOL maybe by then I'll be able to just say GO TO SLEEP!

  • Hell yeah! :) When she lets me! Stick out tongue

Rocking as always worked well for us and we don't have major sleep issues so I see no reason to stop.

However, more times than not she prefers I just lay her down, let her have her sippy and she looks at books until she's asleep.

  • Yup and I plan to for as long as she'll let me.  I bet I'll be rocking her to sleep when she is 20, LOL!

  • I still nurse and rock to sleep at night.  Really it is more like swaying while holding him since I don't have a rocker chair.  He is sleeping pretty well now but was still up twice a night until ~1 yr.  He is now at only once a night usually so I figure he's able to put himself back to sleep most of the night.  I think at some point, LO won't want to be rocked anymore and then we'll tuck in bed after reading books and he'll sleep on his own.  I'm not going to worry about it.
