Labor music?

Any suggestions for labor music CD's?  I'm thinking the massage therapy type music will be most calming, but I'm not sure...  What do you like?

Re: Labor music?

  • Any music that you like.  I wasn't into listening to relaxing/chill music the whole time.  However, if you're doing hypno birth/babies then you'll probably be used to some relaxing soundtracks.

I listened to a lot of my own personal i-pod music with my first and didn't listen to anything with my second.

  • With DD I use relaxing and classical music.  I wasn't a fan of it at all.

This time around I've decided to switch it up and use the music that I work out to--upbeat pop and things of the like.  S&M is on my playlist and DH keeps giving me a hard time (jokingly) about what the MW's are going to think if DD2 is birthed to that song ;)

  • I'm really, really early in pregnancy, but have been thinking that I'll just pop in my headphones and turn on my running playlist from Rock My Run. I'm used to sweating, pushing myself and focusing while listening to it, so I'm hoping hat helps me get in the zone :)
  • I joke with Dh that I'm going to play Seven Nation Army remix by the White Stripes while pushing. It's kind of like my Eye of the Tiger to get me pumped up :)

I also was listening to the lulabye soundtrack by Jewel at my sister's house and it is very soothing and calming. It would make a good background CD during labor. Of course, it's baby music though.

  • When you're in labor, the last thing you want is music! Forget what you "learned" at Lamaze class... Go with your gut! Fight through the pain! Squeeze your partners hand! Make sure you have your partner & one other person to help hold your legs (for natural)! I had my husband & sister & they were awesome! Also, soak in the jacuzzi tub, if available! It totally helps the contractions! Good luck! If you need a coach, reach out!
  • My doula recommended a couple of pandora stations nature sounds and meditation/relaxation. Very similar to massage music!

  • Although I'm really early, whenever I'm in a gym class, I keep thinking of something that has a distinct beat to it that could help time and track contractions as well as distract me. I'm thinking (since it's my favourite music at the moment) that labour tracks will include:

Music that will distract: Florence and the machine, JunkieXL, Snow Patrol and I'm going to get some music from my spinning instructor (I'll probably ask him to burn me some of his spin class cds that I can transfer to my ipod)

Relaxing music: Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, Sarah Mclachlan

That's what I've though of so far...

  • I've made lists for two births and during both it was the last thing on my mind. I agree it's good to have just in case you want it, but don't stress too much is all I would say. I really go inside during labor and don't want people touching me or really even talking, so even music I specifically chose probably would have completely annoyed me!

THIS.  Exactly this.  Except I've only done it once.  I couldn't have anything touching me, not even clothes!  Lol :)

  • I'm planning to bring my headphones and listen to what I listen to when I work out. DH thinks I'm crazy b/c I'm also bringing my Tool CD (they're my favorite- I  know, weird) and some DMB and Counting Crows. I figure that's a good mix of my favorites and music I'm used to using for motivation/ pushing myself. Of course, there's also a chance I won't want to listen to anything at all!

  • I made myself 2 mixes. One was a gentle and calming mix, and the other was upbeat and energizing. I planned to use one if I was feeling antsy and the other if I was feeling worn out, but I ended up preferring quiet so I can't say which worked better.

  • I was glad I brought my iPod last time, and plan to bring it again this time. Im all about the relaxing music. I think I could get by with just the My Morning Jacket catalog, but I'm also into things like Nine Inch Nails they have plenty of quieter stuff and Ryan Adams catalog.
