Constant Cramping?

So just wondering about this feeling I've had for the past few days...

It's been an ache/cramp feeling in my lower back that wraps around to my sides a bit... I've also been getting (TMI) huge mucus globs, but it's not a bloody show.

The cramps just kinda hang around, like a dull ache all day, not really going away and coming back like a normal contraction.

I may be a silly FTM, but I'm not sure I'll know when I start having contractions? Can you shed any light on this for me?

Re: Constant Cramping?

  • Sounds like Mucous Plug and BH. I keep getting achy belly. Nothing consistent though.

No one will be able to "shed any light on this" for you.

I had timeable BHs/maybe real contractions all day yesterday starting at 4am and going until 10:30pm - started at every 20-30 minutes, got to every 8-10 minutes for several hours. They go back to every 20-40 minutes when I lay down. I'm still here, no real labor. No one knows.

Your body might not be ready yet. Isn't that what your doctor told you when she stripped your membranes on Monday?

As usual, thank you for your snarky response.

I must've missed this.  Why did they strip your membranes?  Just curious, I thought that was an "overdue" type of thing, but I've never really looked into it so I definitely could be wrong!  As for the cramping, and how you'll know... I think it is an "everyone is different" type of thing, like everything it seems! Smile  If they get more intense & more consistent without letting up when you lay down, I'd start paying attention/timing.  Otherwise could be BH still.  I'm not sure.

Unrelated, but did you get tested for AF leak?  Sorry if you already posted about it and I missed it.

Yup, Thanks for asking. I did get checked, and it's not AF. I'm glad I went in, I hate being a worry-wart, but it's like the nurses said, better safe than sorry.

If you didn't ask so many stupid questions you woudln't get so many snarky responses. Just saying.

I think there may be others that have the same questions as I do, and I don't think they're STUPID because I haven't ever experienced being 9 months pregnant before. People who respond the way you do make others not want to participate because they are afraid of being attacked. Not everyone may be as educated as you seem to think you are on this subject.

This is true. You attempted an induction procedure. You can't expect your body not to feel something from it. You'll just have to wait it out and see now.

  • I've had random backaches and some mucous as well. I am chalking it up to being in the final weeks of pregnancy and my body gearing up for labor.

I have a feeling when you're getting real contractions, you'll know.

This is me exactly. Sounds to me like your body is making progress.

I took a warm bath at 2am last night, that helped a lot for the cramps, so maybe try that.

And as a fellow teacher who works with children, you know that some behavior is better ignored. Don't sweat it :) You are someone who worries a lot, I don't think that makes you a bad person. I wonder with every cramp/ache whats going on in there too.

The bottom line is that you will know when you are having real contractions.

  • I had constant cramping yesterday and was sent into triage. I was having contractions and because I'm so early, they attempted to stop them. They did. If I had been 36+ weeks they said they would have just let me ride it out. Since I plan to go med-free, I want to labor at home as long as possible but I was too early not to be checked out and possibly get it stopped. They encouraged that and told me if i was having 6 contractions within an hour, water breaking or mucas loss to come back right away.

My DR and now the hospital staff have told me, I won't make it my due date, while everything I read on TB says this all means nothing. Maybe, maybe not. When in doubt, call your doctor.

It's good to hear experiences from other people, but I think it's best to talk to your doctor about this.  Every pregnancy is different, and what may be NBD to one person could be labor for another.

All this is the same for me. I went into L&D for cramps and they were timeable. Turns out they were contractions. I was having some that I didn't even feel. They told me I wouldn't make it to my due date either. They said next time they are going to just let my labor go and not stop the contractions. It's all getting so real!

  • It's likely you're feeling cramps because of having your membranes stripped...seems like a no-brainer to me.

  • I'm 38 weeks and have been experiencing the same thing. I saw my OB a couple days ago and she told me it is just one of the body's ways of preparing for labor.
  • I am actually going through the exact same thing. I had my membranes swept on Tuesday because of an induction scheduled for next week and I have had pretty consistent cramps since then. I also had my "bloody show" on Wed. Right now I am actually laying on the couch and I am having dull back pains that radiate to my sides. I just plan to wait it out and see if they get any worse. If they don't then you're not in labor, easy as that. I was really hoping that getting my membranes swept would work because I am scared to death of my scheduled induction.

  • It's posts like this that piss me off.  Why jump on someone just b/c they did someone with their own body that you don't agree with?  Who cares.  Ignore her and move on.  Geez.

This is the reason I don't ask questions and participate, I get enough shizz from life, I don't want it from strangers on the internet.

But I opened this post because I randomly had constant cramping today too, so I wanted to see what others are experiencing...I think mine are from too much poop and gas pains. Good luck with yours, call you Dr. just in case!
