cant help but feel worried..

Im 16wks and i am still not showing. pants are snug but thats it. I just don't understand how I'm not showing by now. Ive been just smaller than a size 2 for as long as i can remember.. youd think I would show by now with such a small body frame.. Hard to believe im somehow hiding a baby the size of an avacado in my belly! Cant stop thinking that maybe the baby isnt growing like it should... Please just tell me im being rediculous! LOL

by the way.. you ladies are amazing and I love that i can throw out my rediculous worries and know you guys are going to calm me down everytime! lol

  • Is it your first baby?  Position of the uterus matters too.  Also, 16 weeks is still early for showing for some people.

And for what it's worth, I am a size 10, curvy frame, and showed early.  Size doesn't always matter when it comes to when you show.  My uterus is just right out front.

Yes I am very much a FTM! my OB never said anything about my uterus being in a different position than normal... So im guessing i am normal. I just keep waiting to wake up one morning with a bump like all the ladies on here have said.

  • All of what PPs said. Also if you work out and do abs moderately your muscles will be better at holding up, untill you are further along, and holding things in.

I didn't start showing until well after 20 weeks with my first, and I never got huge.  The doctor told me that some women just have more room in their body to carry babies, and that you can actually carry some more towards your back.

You'll eventually show.  Hang in there!  I know it's so exciting when people finally notice and start asking you about it.

  • I hear ya. I also thought I'd be showing more. My pants are tight and I use a rubber band (just because it's uncomfortable otherwise) when I wear clothes with a button. (I've been wearing a lot of yoga pants and dresses!) I'm about a size 8 but have a short torso, so I thought I'd see more at this point.   I'm ready! And I also stress about it and my next Dr appt is forever away.

  • I'm a size 2 pre-preg, too, and I didn't show with DD until past 20 weeks. I mean, I could tell I was a bit thicker but a stranger would NEVER have guessed until closer to 23/24 weeks, and even then I had some coworkers who hadn't figured it out.

Depending on how strong your abs are, how your uterus is positioned, etc, it's totally normal.

This is my second baby and people are still surprised when I tell them because they can't see it yet.

  • Only people who know me very well can notice and this is baby #2.

  • Oh my gosh, I am so glad someone else brought this up!  I am a little bit bigger than you (usually a 4-6, although the jeans I'm wearing today are a size 2 - I rubber-banded them for some extra space, but doing that makes them a tad too big!) and as of 16.5 weeks I've only gained 2 lbs!  My belly is finally starting to stick out a *little* bit (my husband and one of my coworkers have been able to tell, but everyone else has laughed at me when I said I'm finally getting a baby bump!), but it's more obvious at night.  Every morning I wake up and it's like "Where'd my belly go???"

It's a bit worriesome, but I try to keep in mind that my mom didn't show much with me until nearly 5 months, so genetics combined with a long torso and strong ab muscles seems to mean that the baby is growing more up than out at this point.  I am already noticing reduced lung capacity though - I keep nearly passing out at band rehearsal if I try to play my clarinet for more than 4 bars without taking a breath.  Eep!

  • Oh, and I have a short torso so I "Should" show early but I don't and I never got very big with DD despite gaining almost 30 lbs by 36 weeks. I don't know where it hides, but it does! I think DD must have been aimed towards my back and kind of tucked into my body.
