Special Needs

Project PLAY

Has anyone else participated in this.  Our neuro developmental pedi recommended it and we have our initial eval in a few weeks. We currently have 1 hour of week of EI, and will also be starting sensory integration therapy with an OT once a week as well (which we are paying for out of pocket).

Just wondering if the out of pocket cost is worth it, it sounds like a great program, but I want to make sure we are spending our money wisely to help DD the best we can (she was recently diagnosed with ASD as a "working diagnosis" and has hypotonia and a lot of sensory issues).

Re: Project PLAY

  • I have never heard of this program. The name sounds nice though!

Is participating time sensitive? Is it something you could look at again after the New Year and see how the OT goes now? The other thing that affects our therapy choices is insurance. Even if you are going OOP for it would it count in any way towards a deductible?

I guess you can look at it from a standpoint of if it will fit with your family's schedule. It is very tempting to pile on the therapies, but at the end of the day all the work, follow through and travel is on your shoulders. Don't over schedule yourself.

  • We did the PLAY Project, Dr. Solomon was the one who gave ds his dx. We did the PLAY project through EI and did not have to pay for it, once ds turned 3 and moved on to the school district we couldn't afford to continue it but felt that we had learned enough from doing it that we could continue a lot of the principles. I think it's a really wonderful program and it helped ds a lot.
