I had DD at 6am last Thursday and started stool softeners with dinner.
I had my first bm pp on Sunday...but didn't have an urge to until then.
I'm still taking the softener.
I did, however, have a bm before my water broke, but I don't push, I just let it happen.
For me it was 5 days pp. Do you drink coffee? That's what helped me get going finally, I think. Two cups of really strong coffee in the am. My labor buddy and my mom both suggested milk of magnesia, but I was able to go before Dh went out to get it.
I had my DD on a Wednesday morning, left the hospital on a Sunday, and Monday morning had my first BM. I told the nurses that I was waiting to go in the comfort of my own home I never felt the urge until I got home.
It took me about a week PP to make a BM, mostly because I would get scared because it was starting to hurt as I went and shut it down. I still am only going every 3 days or so and every time it hurts. My advice is to stay hydrated and don't give up on the stool softeners.

I finally had a BM at 1 week PP and it hurt and took 3 full days to get all the hard ones out and have regular BMs. I was taking 6 stool softeners a day which was the max dose on the bottle. Also drinking a ton of apple juice and water.
I delivered on a Monday and didn't have one till Saturday. And I was in tears on the toliet the first time. Not to scare you. I was taking stool softeners and milk of magnesia also. Once the first one came though, its been a lot easier. I also had a 3rd degree tear, so it didn't make things easier. Good luck.
