This message is for FTMs who are nervous about daycares. DD currently attends an early learning center daycare and I couldn't be more happy with them. I wish I'd taken a picture of what she looked like when she came home today, but OMG! My last FB status says:
Lela had a GREAT day at daycare today! She came home FILTHY... hair sticky (took 10 minutes to wash it out), cheeto faced, runny nose, white shirt stained with red paint and jello, and her shoes on the wrong feet. She only had a one hour nap today, and she was a chatty-Kathy all evening talking about policemen. A disheveled, tired child means that the daycare is doing a good job.
I know some of you are thinking, "How does that equal a good day?!" But what this says to me is that she had a blast! She painted, had snacks with friends, was too excited to sleep, learned about policemen, got to practice putting on her own shoes, and got exposed to some common germs. I can't explain the sticky hair...LOL! They usually clean her up a bit before I pick her up, but I got there early and we had to leave quickly.
STMs, what is the absolute best thing about your child's daycare center?
Mine is that they take a picture of DD every day and at the end of the year I get a scrapbook of every day that I missed with her.
Re: An awesome daycare
She doesn't NORMALLY look like that when I pick her up... today we had a special circumstance and had to leave before they could thoroughly wipe her down. She's almost 2, so the jello was expected. It's also my fault for sending her in a white shirt when I knew her curriculum said they'd be painting and learning about the color red this week. LOL! I used to work at a daycare as well, and I know that mess= great day!
I wouldn't change my choice to send her there for the world. When you find a good daycare, you don't let them go. They love her so much, and every morning when I drop her off she is excited to be back. I actually use it as a bribe to help her get ready faster in the morning.
Our first family photo!
I also love the camera I log into and soy on him during the day it's fun watching him run around and okay with his friends :

Baby girl due 11/22/12!
My daughter was in daycare until she was 18 months old before I decided to change over to a friend's in-home daycare (I had issues with that particular center, not daycare in general). There's a lot I miss about her being out in the world. I love that she got to see Santa, exchange Valentines and celebrate birthdays. I loved getting a finger painting or colored triangle when she was learning about shapes. I love that she was with kids a few months older than her to learn from and kids a few months younger so she could learn to be nice.
I love that picture idea! We got daily reports of what they did, but pictures would have been awesome!
Awesome! So glad that your DD had a great day and that you recognized the signs that many moms would have missed!
My kids aren't in daycare anymore (our in home downsized and I adjusted my hours to evenings and weekends) but I loved ours. They were never afraid to get wet or dirty. They posted a video yesterday to FB and my son kept saying "Do it again! Those my friends!"
STMs, what is the absolute best thing about your child's daycare center?
Best thing about my DD Daycare is that she loves it! She is 16mo and has never once cried for me to stay/take her with me. As soon as we get into the door she heads to the daycare providers, stops, turns and waves bye bye to me. Its so nice knowing she is safe and having a blast all day while i'm at work!
And as a FTM just know to send your kid in older/colored clothes because they do play hard and do fun crafts and get dirty at daycare! They should, its how they learn! Start rummage sale'n, thrift store shopping for daycare clothes!
