When did you stop working?

I am a teacher and right before I found out I was pregnant I found a new position in a different county.  Since I am new to this county I do not qualify for FMLA or short term disability.  I get 6 or 8 weeks to be home and ideally I want that time to be after the delivery.

So when did you work until?

I would love to stick it out at work till I deliver like I did with my DD but I have a feeling that is not realistic.

Re: When did you stop working?

  • I was really lucky in that I had no complications, so I worked up until a week before my scheduled csection at 38 weeks. I was also fortunate to have a joh where I can sit at a desk for most of the day I wanted to have a week to relax and finish getting ready. Wouldn't you know it, the girls decided to show up the very next day after my last day of work.

  • I worked until 36 weeks and had my babies at 37 weeks. But I had a desk job and did nothing but work and sleep, and I was still miserable.

  • Until the day I went into labor. My water broke at work! I was 36 weeks and 4 days. I have an office job though so it made working that long a bit easier.

  • I am a teacher also, I couldn't take it anymore at about 33 weeks. Luckily, my 3months of fmla ended right at the end of the school year, and I didn't have to go back.

  • I'm at 35w and still working, but I've had no complications and I have a desk job.  I also have a two-year-old, so going to the office is actually less physically strenuous than staying home would be.

  • I went to 27 weeks and then asked my Dr to take me off. He put me on "modified bedrest" but i am a nurse that worked 12 hours on my feet. I knew my body was getting a beating and wanted to carry them as far as possible. I took it easy and delivered them at 37 weeks and 4 days! Both babies were 6 and a half pounds. Dont push it, just listen to your body :)

  • Thanks ladies!  You make me feel like I can make it longer than I thought.  So far I'm having a very easy time but it is still early.  Fingers crossed!

  • 22 weeks.  I thought I would go until at least 28 but they had other plans.
  • I am a Trauma RN in a very busy ER, so the plan is to stop working in a few weeks, right at the 28 week mark when I start bi-weekly NST and weekly BFPs.  I am currently working 8 hrs, which is cut from my regular 12 hrs. shifts and even after 8 hrs. I feeling quite uncomfortable after running, literally running, around the ER all day.  I'm looking forward to having a little extra R&R without work in the mix!

  • I had planned to work until 36 weeks, but that didn't happen :) I was one of those everything was fine until it wasn't.

I work a full time desk job, and was putting in 50+ hours around 24 weeks. My Dr. said I needed to cut back, so I did. I had PTL at 33 weeks and was put on bedrest. Up until that point I had zero complications or issues.

Honestly, I don't know how I would have worked from 34 weeks on anyway. Driving was almost impossible, as was sitting up right. My belly was huge! I was pretty miserable even on bed rest

  • Our leave policy at work has women expecting multiples go out at 34 weeks -- and I'll be taking my remaining vacation on top of that (which will also overlap with Thanksgiving), so I'll be out of the office around 31.5 weeks.

Here's to hoping I can make it that long! I'm a little anxious that I'll be bored as heck if I'm able to bake these kiddos for a full 37+ weeks, but from what I hear, I'll be so uncomfortable post-30 weeks, anyway, so time will tell.

  • I work in healthcare, so I am on my feet all day at work, few bathroom breaks, 10 min lunch, etc. I dropped to part/half time @ 26 weeks and then started bedrest @ 30 wks for a growth discordance. By 32 weeks, it was uncomfortable to move, so I probably wouldn't have been able to work after that point.

My boss is letting me take an extended unpaid mat leave, so I won't go back to work until the babies are 6.5 mos old. I feel like the first 9 weeks after delivering were such a blur-we were so exhausted (DH only had 1 week off work and works long work days). I can't imagine only getting 6-12 wks off for maternity leave!!

  • I am also a teacher and made it to 35 weeks, planned on staying to 36.  Of course it was my first year without a classroom and was traveling. No fun!
  • I am a teacher too and I made it to 35 weeks then it was the end of the school year. The last few weeks were rough but I did absolutely nothing when I came home but rest!

    Good luck!
