Code anti Buttercream... Tell me I'm not the only one

Who isn't turning it up to 11 for lo's birthday party?

No flames, but I really feel like I'm in the minority when I see posts where people are scheduling photo sessions and lining up outfits already.

Don't get me wrong we are having a party and there is a loose theme, but other than that... I don't know. Anyone else feel me on this one?
July 20th, 2012: Never forget the day the fb douchebags tried so hard, but ultimately failed. Viva la October 2011! Yeah, I called you douchebags.

Re: Code anti Buttercream... Tell me I'm not the only one

  • We are doing a party and are taking our theme pretty seriously Sesame Street but only because my DD LOVES SS and I know both my kids' face will light up at their party. We aren't doing professional pictures we haven't done them since 3 weeks old and DS isn't getting a new outfit.

We are going to make it fun for the other 9 or so kids coming, as well as our kids but that's really our only goal. To have fun! We aren't going all out on anything else... Just fun!

  • Yeah, we're keeping it pretty casual.  Probably just hot dogs on the grill and some cake.  We're just having it at our house with the families.  I was going to order some cute photo invitations, but we can't pick a date yet b/c of MH's work schedule, so I will probably just do the old-fashioned hand-written ones!

  • No party, no theme, just a Mommy-son day of church, breakfast at my favorite diner, shopping, picnic, and a cupcake for R.  I may get him a new outfit, though.  The theme will be "Ronin is super cute in this new outfit!"

  • No real party. Going to the ILs, whoever wants to be there can, family wise. Fil's secretary makes us a cake and an oversized cupcake for smashing and I will take the photos myself. No theme.

We don't really do big first bdays in Germany, and with a newborn I don't think I wanna broaden my horizon just now.

  • I'd love to have a party but sadly we've got no one to invite. As of right now we've got nothing planned at all. I just had a look through some local photo studios websites but 50 bucks is my cutoff.

  • We are just doing a family brunch, I'm getting a cake and a happy birthday sign.  Nothing over the top, no theme, no juggling poodles.  Very casual... with booze.

  • I feel you.  I'm not motivated at all.  We are doing a small party (about 12 people or so), so maybe that's why.  I'm having it at my house, and we're having some mini pumpkin decorating for the older kids and having a casual lunch, but that's about it.  Nothing big or fancy.  I didn't even pick out her outfit, my mom saw something she loved and bought it, so I'm all set there.  I feel bad, because I went all out for my DS' 1st bday (at a venue with 50+ people), but I seriously have no energy this time around.

  • I don't feel like I'm turning it up to 11. What we're doing is just standard for the types of parties we have. Most of the decorations we're using are from her room or my baby shower and I am hand making a few. I have a shirt for her to wear because the lady who made her a tutu made it for her but no bottoms yet. And we did the pictures because we have so few of her, not because of her party. Our biggest expense will be the entertainer which is more for E and his friends and the cake because I'm picky about where we get our cake from, even more so after her the smash cake disaster this week.
  • We scaled back.  I got all revved up from this board and Pinterest and attacked my wife with a farm theme and she was like 'um.. theme?? he's one.'  And everything was quickly and happily tabled.  (exhale) We'll have a cake and family and friends and grill in the backyard.  We are having a photo session/cake smash (maybe), though.  Our friend is a professional photographer and is doing them for practically nothing.  We were too overwhelmed to do a newborn shoot, I don't want to miss this one.

When I see people sending out invites and such, it makes me feel inferior. We're having a cake and the grandparents are flying in, but other than that, I'm not sure what is happening yet. Stop making me feel inferior, people!

If it makes you feel better we both have big families and then my brother has a couple friends who are basically like my sibilings and they all live local. If we just had our immediate families and MHs grandmother it would be almost 20 people.

  • We are having a themed party but it's strictly our two families that will be there.

I'll admit though, I'm going way too overboard but I enjoy themed things too much!

I think you should come to NJ for V's birthday!

  • We're having a party, but not one that takes months to plan. It's just not our thing. We'll have a cake smash and decorate (probably just go to the party store and pick some up the week before his bday).

I just realized that I can have booze for his birthday. Maybe that party just got a tiny bit more exciting!

  • We are just having a small get together. No family in the area, so I will some of my friends and a couple of neighbors (since we went to their LOs parties). I am doing a theme in only desert and balloons. I have gotten swept up in the code buttercream posts and have been feeling a little inadequate in my party plans, but now I feel better.
  • I feel unmotivated, I have been using Pinterest for ideas, but all I have bought were 50cent clearance blue/green polka dot napkins from Walmart.  I haven't booked the taco man yet, nor told anyone (close family & friends) about a date yet. Tongue Tied

When I see people sending out invites I think... Already???? Dang talk about over prepared!  I don't feel inferior I just think "they must be having a different kind of party".

I want to have a stress free BBQ in the backyard with a pinata!

Our invites went out last week, but the party is Sept 8th. We are combining my DD's 2nd birthday party (born 8/6) and my DS's 1st birthday (born 9/28). I love themes so I can't say this is the only reason, but my 2 yr old will absolutely go nuts when she sees all the Sesame Street decorations and things at their party. Plus they have their little friends from storytime that are coming and all the kids will love seeing these decorations.

I make my own cupcakes, the party will be a BBQ, and alcohol will definitely be involved! Other than the decorations/activities our party will definitely be low-key. It will cost me maybe $150 for everything (including food) for 2 kids' birthdays.

  • When I see some of the ideas some people have for a first birthday, I'm like holy sh!t, they are turning one! So I feel ya, HA.

Since we are on a tight budget, we are going to the park and having cake and ice cream. An organization called Icing Smiles is making a cake for us for free, so we don't have to worry about that. I will throw together some Mickey Mouse shaped Quesadillas and have some baby snacks and that is about it. The only reason we have people to invite is because we are part of the Mommy Group here in town. If I wasn't it would probably just be D, me, DH, ILs, and some of our close friends that have little ones.

  • we had a big party for DS when he turned 1 so i feel bad not doing something similar for DD.  However we had DS's party at our house and it was way too much!  i didn't get to enjoy any of it b/c i was so busy running around.  This time around we're just ordering sammies and my mom will make meatballs etc... and we're having it at our local park w/ picnic tables etc.., no cleaning the house before and after so that will be nice and only light cooking (potato salad etc)

  • Me! We are having about 30 people but that is only because our immediate families are huge. We have no theme, it's going to be a casual cookout and I have no clue what DD will be wearing.

  • Nothing planned here really.

No one to invite either and fam are all back in the UK. Mil and her boy are flying over the week before  so wont actually be here for his birthday.

We have a few little prezzies in mind and  Im sure DS will love an ice cream cake.

But it will be just the 3 of us.

  • yes and no.

We are doing a photo shoot for his birthday, but I'm thinking it's going to also serve as Christmas portraits. We have only done NB photos so far.

We're having a neighborhood block party next weekend and have invited F+F so I'm going to have a smash cake & cake for our guests there and we'll do the whole happy birthday thing. But we're not having a separate party for him. We're going to Maui as a family instead ;)

  • Us. I really don't get having a huge party. I felt the same way about my bridal and baby showers too. I just prefer stuff like this to be limited to our close friends and family.

It'll be the grandparents, his aunt and uncle plus their new baby due next month... Then possible 23 sets of our closest friends I'll invite them but honestly don't mind if they can't make it.

I am making allergy safe cupcakes. Besides that we will probably have some snacks and something easy like burgers. I thought about a theme but LO is too young to really care. Maybe I will wait til next year when he has some fave characters or things to base a theme off of.

  • Well my baby will be having TWO birthday parties so I win.  *flips hair*  Stick out tongue  We live 6 hours from all of our family so we are going to have a family party in my hometown and then a friends party where we live.  We are doing a circus theme because my mom won a raffle with a bunch of circus themed party stuff.  I bought print your own invites from Etsy and had a dress made to the tune of a whopping $25 bucks.  We have a big family so there will be 50+ people at her first party but it's at a park and we will be serving pizza.  I am planning on doing fun carnival themed games for the kids because most of them are older.  Honestly I don't see why this is such a dividing topic on the boards.

I'm going all out too. I won't be posting pictures here bc I'm sure a lot of you will find it ridiculous. Hehe. :

No, no, I totally want to see all the birthday party pictures!

  • I've been celebrating his monthly birthdays with a little cupcake, but the birthday bug hasn't hit me yet. I know family is expecting a party, but in all honesty, I'd rather do something small and save the big parties for when he's a little older.

The only things we are doong "theme" related are her outfit, cake, and  invites.  We are keeping everything else casual.  Roast Beef Sammies, Meatballs, Pasta Salad, maybe a Chick-Fil-A nugget platter (and no, I'm not anti-gay marriage, I just happen to also support free speech. And I really like CFA Nuggets.)

No photo session, no smash cake, no favors.  (My BFF gives people GIFTS for coming to her kids party.  What?!?!)

ETA:  Oh, and we are inviting a ton of people.  Only because I like my friends and family and like to get everyone together.  It's an excuse to see everyone.

  • We're having lunch with my parents, DH's parents and siblings, and two other couples (one couple has two young daughters who will attend).  That's it.  I'll make some yummy finger foods and cupcakes, if the weather is nice we'll go to the park.  There is no theme, there is no special outfit (although I might get a "birthday girl" bib or something) and the only special decorations will be some 1st birthday balloons that we only bought because they were ridiculously cheap at a liquidation sale.  I think we'll go do a photo shoot at WalMart, though, since we can get a free print every month that we never remember to do.
