Fruits to make her poop?

DD has not pooped in a few days.  She has only pooped once since we started solids.  I am sure they are related.  Which fruits will make her poop, I know someone talked about this awhile ago, but I can't find the post.  Was it pear? I have pear. I also have a peach and some apples, would any of these work?

  • Apples always work for DS.

  • Pears ought to do it!

  • I would not do apple since that is part of the BRAT diet for upset stomach/diarrhea. Being it is part of this acronym to help stop diarrhea I think apples have to have some type of constipating property.  Do you have prunes or could you go out tonight and get some?  My baby loves prunes and it is guaranteed to give him a blow out later that day.
  • I've heard that the "p" foods work well to get things moving ... pears, peaches, prunes, and peas.

  • Lauren is an every other day pooper IF we give her fruit. So she gets pears on the days she doesn't poop. I hope that makes sense!

She didn't love peaches, but pears are her favorites. She likes squash and she loves carrots. I'm not sure if any of those are constipating but I know pears help her "go".

  • A jar of the Earth's Best prunes always helps the girls (I'm sure any form of prunes would help, we just got a bunch of those for free).

  • I would try prunes. I haven't even tried prunes because I"m terrified as to what will come out! We tried peaches for lunch and she blew out by 3.

  • DD usually goes every other day.  I fed her pears yesterday and today and she went twice today.  It is pretty unusual so I would say it was the pears.

    Another vote for this.

A friend of mine checked with Dr. Google, and used a thermometer to "get things going" and ended up making things worse so I would definitely not do that. Poor kiddo. GL.

  • Apple JUICE will make her poop. Apple sauce will not. Apple sauce, as someone said, is part of the BRAT diet, and is the opposite of what you are looking to do. Apple juice is higher in natural sugars and is a liquid, so it will get things moving. Apple sauce contains more of the whole fruit and is higher in pectin...which is a roughage...and will work the opposite way.
I've always given my older DD a cup of apple juice when she gets "off" and it does the trick within an hour. Apricots, as well as prunes, also work well.

Apple juice has helped DD! She's not too sure about it...but even just a few sips helped her poop yesterday. We did peaches for dinner last night and again for breakfast this morning...and she pooped twice today. So far peaches are the only "p" food that has really helped DD! Peas and pears didn't have much of an effect on her.

  • I would not use an apple.  If a child or even adult has diarreah, you use BRAT to help stop it...Bananas, Rice, Apples, Toast...so, apples may stop her up.  I know if I give Ian apples or bananas, I have to counteract with something.  Pears works sometimes for us, but usually something green like green beans or peas.  Prunes would do the trick too.
