Anyone else pregnant and in college?
I've been stressing a little about it. The upcoming semester starts on Monday and I'll be in my 27th week. Decided to email all my teachers weeks ago to make them all aware of what is going on and that I'll be giving birth at the end of November. Everyone seems cool with it except one. Their reply to my email made me unsure. However, I know two people for sure who are taking that class and will work with me to keep me caught up at the end before finals since I will NOT be there.
Basically just curious if anyone else is going through similar stuff.
I'm 25, having our first child, and in college. Ugh!
Re: Third Trimester in College...
I thought about not going this semester mainly because I'm already getting big and uncomfortable. That and I too have a fear of my water breaking on campus. I'm taking ceramics and will be working on the wheel. Pretty exciting stuff, but I'm so worried that my water will break and flood the ceramics room. I know it's not a realistic thought, but it is one I just can't seem to get out of my head.
One good thing about me continuing with the semester is that my college is only about 5-10 mins from the hospital and my doctor's office. Which is closer than where I live. The idea of spending my week days so close makes me feel a little better. Also, it's one less semester I'll have to make up later. Next semester (after she is here) I'm doing it part time, online. This semester is full time and on campus.
Tuesday after my appointment, I went on campus for books and got looks from other students. It has begun and classes haven't even started yet. Lol.
I'm sure your professor will help you take the precautions you need to, but I just wanted to chime in and say to make sure that any glazes you use are safe for a pregnant woman to use.
I took a few pottery sessions, and my instructor said that when I decided pregnant, I would need to be mindful of that since some contain lead, etc. (unfortunately, I've moved away from the studio though, boo). It's a blast and very relaxing after you get the hang of it, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
I'm working on my second graduate degree right now, but I'm not in a huge hurry with it, so I decided just to take the semester off. I had enough problems trying to focus on the classes I was taking this summer. I'll go back in the spring.
This is good advice. Definitely talk to your professors in person, and possibly your dept. chair or the dean if need be.
I'll be starting my 3rd year of a super intense master's program next Monday. I'm only taking 2 classes this semester but I know it's still going to be a challenge. If I was going full time I'd be doing a 40+ hr/week externship on top of the 2 classes this semester (and next), so I'm definitely giving myself a break compared to the rest of my classmates but not taking any time off. I'm not sure what will happen when the baby comes but I'll try to work out alternate arrangements and deal with what I need to do the best that I can. Good luck!
Can you take fewer credits this fall?
I'm in grad school and will be taking a reduced load this fall so that I don't get overwhelmed and so I can keep up with my fabulous 8-10 hours of sleep/night schedule and keep the stress under control.
my only advice is to talk to the teachers right up front and make arrangements for the end of the trimester-- either to take finals or turn in papers early (my plan), or to make them up later. Sounds like you've already started this.
