Inspired by my UO...
I have tried guinea pig, cow's brains, heart, tongue, intestines and sweetbreads. Pig's feet, snails, dove, sea urchins. Chicken feet and heart. Dried alpaca, too.
Part of my regular diet includes cow's heart and chicken heart. ilove them. When eat them barbecued. My father is Argentinean, so I eat a lot of chinchul?es as well (barbecued intestines). I also like tongue and brains but I go to restaurants because I don't know how to cook them. Have you ever tried something really adventurous?
Re: Are you adventurous with food?
Yes, pretty much everything you've eaten except the chicken feet, pig's feet and dried alpaca.
I'm a total "foodie".........love trying new foods and eating "different" foods.
Of the things you listed, I've only had the opportunity to eat tongue and sweetbreads, and chicken giblets. Oh, and sea urchin. I honestly don't care that much for organ meat, and I don't think it's supposed to be very good for you, is it? I could be wrong, and of course everything is fine in moderation.
I love trying new things. I've been to some great sushi restaurants and tried all sorts of interesting seafood, like surf clam and I don't know what all else. I've eaten rattlesnake and alligator, and lots of different game. I don't think being adventurous with food necessarily has to mean eating uncommon proteins, though. I think it's mostly about being open to trying anything that you've never had and wouldn't typically make for yourself.
I know that I would have a hard time eating horse or dog. It would have to be a situation where I was going to very gravely offend someone by passing it up.
This! And they both taste like chicken only alligator tends to be a little more spicy!
Not according to this thread.
I don't do the organ thing...I mean, I've eaten foie gras a number of times, but I just can't do the heart, brain thing. I've had gator before...tastes like chicken.
I don't see the big deal about sea urchin...it's ok. I like bone marrow. I also don't eat raw tomatoes. But besides that, I'm good.
Not really. I do like chicken heart and the chicken eggs before the chicken has them. I can't think of what they are called. We used to butcher our own meat when I was younger (I grew up on a farm) so that is where I've had them.
Fun fact.....the casing on some frying sausage is actually a layer from intestines. I'm not sure about all. I just know that when we used to make our own sausage, that's what we used.
I can't bring myself to try sushi. I'm not much of a seafood fan. Although I did try snails, and thought they were rubbery.
I've had rattlesnake, alligator and even turtle soup! LOL! Emu, ostrich, venison, goat, all sorts of fish. I LOVE bone marrow, foie gras, any type of sashimi.........
We eat intestine soup for Easter, lamb innards wrapped in intestines and grilled on a spit, etc...........
I'm squeamish with eyes (my parents eat fish eyes, etc.) and anything gelatinous (like head cheese)..........
You win.
Haha. The hunters caught the mom, and found the baby on her tummy. They'll usually avoid killing mothers like that... it was an accident. The village kids knew exactly how to take care of it and what to feed it, so they taught my how. It was a really fun pet until it was about 6 months old... then he started getting grumpy and throwing things. I have a scar on my hand from the one time he bit me because I wouldn't share my dinner.
