N is a baby that needs to be swaddled, but the kid starting rolling over in his sleep at 10 weeks so we had to stop. After a month of trying to get him used to sleeping without a swaddle, he would still startle himself awake all. the. time. He'd wake up about 4 times every night, not wanting to nurse at all, just needing to be snuggled for a bit so he'd fall back to sleep. (Admittedly, I tried one night to see if he could "fuss it out" but he flailed around for 5 minutes grunting and groaning until I came in there, picked him up, put his pacifier back in and swayed for 30 seconds... then he was back to sleep.)
Anyway, I started reading about the Magic Sleepsuit and kept finding reviews of it being a miracle worker and babies STTN the second it was on (or at the least extending sleep stretches). It seemed to be just what he needed- something to muffle his movements in his sleep so he wouldn't wake himself up.
I tried it for the past 3 nights and each night has been progressively worse. I finally just took it off of him last night at 2am and put him in PJs and he went back to sleep no problem.
With the suit, he was waking every 1-2 hours. It did nothing to muffle or restrict his movements. Maybe my kid is a body builder and freakishly strong, but he could get his hands and feet in his mouth while in the thing! I thought maybe he was waking up because he was hot, but I checked him temp and it was just fine. (I just had him in a diaper and the suit.) I guess he just doesn't like wearing a sumo costume to bed.
The good news is that it has a 30 day money back guarantee. It's being shipped back tomorrow.
If you're interested in trying one, N is 17 lb and 26 in long and fits in 3-6 month clothing well. I ordered the 6-9 month size and it was a little big on him, but fit okay with room to grow (which is what I wanted because the thing is $45.)
Here's a photo of him in it:
Re: A (negative) review of the Magic Sleepsuit
Oh my that thing looks redicolous!
Have you tried letting him fuss longer? A few weeks ago my LO started to fuss at 4am and I'd go in but she didn't really want anything. I started to let her fuss, the first night it was 20 minutes, then 10, then just a few for about a week and now she no longer does it.
Haha he looks so funny in it!
We bought one too but haven't tried it yet. We're still swaddling, but she's not really rolling yet. I'm sorry it didn't work for you!
No, I haven't. I always say I am going to try but lay there for 2 minutes and his little grunts coming across on the monitor keep me awake, so I just go in there and put him back to sleep. Although I *think* a few nights ago I was so tired that I fell back to sleep and he put himself back to sleep. However... I'm pretty sleep deprived so who knows if that was a dream. (I am not comfortable letting him CIO, but I am okay with fussing and grunting.)
Friday night we tried having DH go in there during his night wakings (for the first time ever) and he only woke up twice and then slept his longest stretch. The next night, he slept a 7 hour stretch but when he woke up I went in there and was back to waking up every 2 hours. I am trying to take it as a compliment, but I think he just likes me. Ha.
It didn't work for us either, at all. V now is a tummy sleeper and I am a.o.k. with that.
But I kept it anyway because:
1. I didn't realize it had a money back guarantee.
2. It will double as a snowsuit this winter.
I was wondering this too. We used it for a while and then she was getting up all the time. We went back to swaddling in the RNP. We just went back to the sleep suit and currently we like it. At least you are able to get your money back. I have so many sleep sacks, Swaddles and a zipadee that were all useless to me.
Just now seeing this, sorry!
I really don't think the size is that big on him. The objective is to weigh them down/muffle their movements, but he is able to lift his legs up and put his feet in his mouth in the suit :-/ It's a little big, but I don't think big enough that it affects the "function" because the padding should still be servings it's purpose, KWIM?
