S/O swaddles and rolling over...

Are you supposed to stop when they roll over period, or is it when they roll over back to front? DD1 has been rolling over front to back during tummy time for weeks now so I've been wondering.

What about when they "break free"? Our girls almost always end up with their arms out of the swaddle but it is still wrapped up under their armpits and body. Is that what's meant by breaking free or no? I'm sure I'm over thinking this!

Re: S/O swaddles and rolling over...

  • I'm not sure.  We used the sleep sacks and kept their arms swaddled (velcro wrap) when they were real little and then when they got to where they wanted to move them we went to the sleeveless ones that still had the zip up sack.  Those worked well for use and then we didn't have to worry about the blanket coming undone or getting tangled.

    Think they were Halo sacks.

  • If they end up with their arms out, I don't see much point in swaddling anymore. I was worried about stopping but we did it cold turkey and it has been fine.

  • We stopped swaddling as soon as they could roll over. It was probably around 2 months old...maybe a little younger.  When they are unswaddled they still have trouble rolling over but when they are in the SwaddleMe thingies they can just squrim right onto their tummies.
