Glider recommendations for large man

We are wanting to purchase a comfy glider that is big enough for my husband. He's 6'6" 270 lbs. We would also like to keep it in the $300 or less range. Any suggestions?

Re: Glider recommendations for large man

  • We have a Best Chair glider/recliner that would definitely work for a larger person.  It is on the pricier side though.

Have you considered just getting a recliner or rocking chair, not specifically a baby glider?

  • My husband is 6'6 and we just went with a lay z boy. It was the only thing he fit in comfortably, and to be honest it's pretty comfy for me, too!

  • Well, we want something well padded so I don't think I would be happy with a normal rocking chair. And we were thinking about a glider because we also have an issue with space and wouldn't a recliner/lazyboy be bulky?

  • We also have a Best Chair rocker/glider and ottoman and my 6'6'' husband loves it. But we spend about $700 on ours.

  • If space is an issue, a La-z-boy may be too big depending on the model but if you measure how much space you have to work with, La-z-boy may be a good solution for you.  We went with that because my husband is tall and the chair we got is really comfortable easily fits my husband. He's 6'3" and on the thin side, but there is plenty of room to spare.  The kind we got is a recliner/glider so we have the option to pop out the footrest and not have an separate ottoman always taking up space in the room.  They probably are pricier than $300 but with Labor Day sales coming up, maybe you could find a deal (on La-z-boy or other brands).

  • My husband is 6'5" and we got the best chair. Baby is not here yet, but he says it is comfortable. I think the chair and ottoman together cost about $600-700.

  • Thanks guys. I don't even necessarily want the chair, but it's one of the only things hubs has mentioned so I want to make it happen. But we're going to have to compromise somewhere though, because I don't want to spend double what I had in mind. Just not worth it to me when I see all these chairs in the $300 and under range.

Don't skimp just to stay under a certain number if you can afford to do more. Trust me, there's a big difference in the comfort levels within the different price ranges. We were gifted a rocker that I picked out (around $300) and a friend is letting us borrow a Best glider for the upstairs. The Best glider is soooo much more comfortable plus roomier. Consider it an investment, especially if you want a place to snuggle with LO and read books in the future. I wish we had gone with a pricier option for our one we selected.

A couple different resources~ Craigslist. Rummage sales. Place an ad in your classifieds under items wanted. Find a local facebook group that sells items in your area. This would help keep the cost low but you may be searching for a while. It would be worth it if you could find one in the end though.
