DH posted on his FB today that "Penelope has strted liking dinosaurs, apparently. She very much knows what they are & even tried to say 'stegosaurus' this morning"
Cute, funny, true. However, there are sooooo many comments from friends saying what TV show she should watch. ONE person suggested a book (which I will probably get because it looks awesome).
I guess I'm annoyed that the first suggestion is another dang TV show. /vent
Re: Can I be annoyed for a minute?
Are y'all a TV-free household? I guess I wouldn't think to avoid mentioning TV unless I knew that person had a no-TV rule.
Of course, I don't have that many parent friends on FB, and the ones I do have older kids, so I surprisingly don't get into too many parenting-related conversations on FB. Maybe I'm not up on the FB etiquette?
And I am NOT going to post any commentary back to people. I'm sure they're well intended, and it's possible I'm hormonal of something. hehe
Ah, ok. I gotcha.
I actually can't think of any dinosaur-related books or shows. My poor kid might be dino-deprived! Our library is a little heavy on puppies and kittens and cars and trucks right now. LOL
I think that many people really put their kid in the front of the TV all day long!! I felt bad this summer because I was so sick and we barely left the house. Since school has started back, I haven't really turned on the TV once all week - as it should be! On a side note, if the show was Dinosaur Train, stay clear!! Worst show ever in my opinion.
Haha, I'm sure they all suggested dinosaur train. I think it's cute, actually, not that annoying, but A isn't really into it, so we don't watch it. We watch SuperWhy right before, so it comes on when I am changing a diaper and stuff before nap. My guess is that most people can think of a tv show faster than they can a book!
But anyway, can I recommend a toy? We got this for A and I'm saving it for when Newbie is born as his big brother gift. And I like how it's just stuffed animals, so it's more about imaginative play as opposed to stuff that makes sounds and music already..It's FAO Schwarz for Toys R Us, so it really is beautiful quality.
Jilly - that toy is really cool!! I will check that out & probably get it for her bday or Christmas pressie! Thanks.
It is annoying that everyone thinks its normal for kids this young to watch a lot of TV. My mom keeps giving me Baby Einstein and Blues Clues videos and stuff and I keep saying, "he doesn't really watch anything right now" and she says, "well this stuff is educational." Maybe it is, but to him it's just something to zone out in front of.
I do like Dinosaur Train, though. I've seen it a couple times on Saturday morning. Here's a great dino book that we have: https://www.amazon.com/First-Dinosaur-Encyclopedia-DK-Publishing/dp/0756625394/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345827605&sr=8-1&keywords=first+dinosaur+encyclopedia
I actually love reading it because I learn stuff about dinosaurs too. I was obsessed with them as a kid.
Also, you should get https://www.amazon.com/How-Dinosaurs-Eat-Their-Food/dp/0439241022/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1345827748&sr=1-1&keywords=how+do+dinosaurs+eat+their+food
The illustrations are so funny they make me laugh every time, plus it encourages table manners!
