Treasa

Pronounced TRA-sa

It's an Irish form of Theresa.

Thoughts?

Re: Treasa

  • I can totally hear it...  Irish accent and all.

I don't hate it, but I'd like to hear it with an accent when ever anyone said it.  Actually, I'd like everyone to just speak in an Irish accent at all times, please.

    Totally agreed!

But until this happens, I don't think the name works outside of Ireland. It looks like a typo/misspelling, and I'd pronounce it tree-AY-sah.

  • Upon first reading, I thought it was a yoo-neek spelling for a special child named Treasure.

  • I mispronounced it and would worry that there would be a lot of that in my child's future.

I prefer Teresa, the Spanish/Italian version, even though I am neither of those ethnicities. :)

Meh, it's simple to correct a person. I'm not as worried about having to correct people. I don't know to many people anymore that don't have to correct others on their names.

    Edit: Typo

  • I really like the way it sounds but I hate the way it looks. I wouldn't have pronounced it right just by looking at it.

  • I don't like it. I would think the E is missing and constantly correcting ppl. There are a cpl names I loved for DD but didn't want to correct ppl all the time.

Hmm I could never have made Treasure out of that...maybe Theresa. Rest assured Treasure is nms.

  • I like it in theory, but not in practicality.   If you lived in Ireland, I'd say go for it.  But she'll often be called Teresa and mostly likely people will think it's just a badly spelled version of Teresa.

    So I vote no.

  • I want to like it. But when I first saw it I could not decide if it was trying to be Tressa, Theresa, or something else all together.  Whats wrong with Theresa? Or Teresa?

I have nothing against them pesonally. I just prefer Treasa. If I had liked Theresa or Teresa I would have posted them. I just don't.

I understand. I was just trying to figure out if you picked the Irish Version because of another reason, like a family member already had the name Theresa and you wanted to avoid confusion. Or something else all together.

  • Hmmm, regardless I think we will keep it on the table. I think the pronunciation is not that difficult to work with. I am very open to names when it comes to culture and a peoples heritage. In this case ours. Thanks though.
