2nd Trimester

So is the traditional position a bedroom no-no now ?

Alright so I keep reading around here that after 14 or so weeks you shouldn't be on your back because of decreased blood flow to the baby. I'm wondering whether that also means that in the bedroom my hubby and I shouldn't be using the regular traditional him on top position since I'm on my back.

I just wonder how true this not being on your back stuff is because I also know there's a lot of B.S about not doing this or that and you can go crazy over it and I really don't want to give up this bedroom position if I don't have to.

I'm not big enough yet where it's uncomfortable so I've been figuring it's fine, but what do you ladies think?

  • I'd say that you do whatever if comfortable to you.

I'm 27 weeks and still sleeping on my back the majority of the night.  I just can't sleep any other way.

I kinda go by the idea that your body will tell you if you need to change position, so I'd figure it would be the same for this situation too.

I don't know.  I've been wondering the same thing.

  • I had sex on my back until I went into labor (literally, my water broke 4 hours after having sex the last time).

Also, I slept on my back much longer than 14 weeks (like 25-30 weeks)

Your body lets you know when you need to do stop doing something.  So when you shouldn't have sex on your back you won't want to.

  • Its fine as long as you are comfortable.  The no laying on back thing isn't set in stone.

  • Unless your sexual adventures last several hours, I wouldn't be too worried ;) They recommend not sleeping on your back because that's several hours of pinching nerves and veins, not to mention stress on your tail bone as your body grows.

But if you want to use it as an excuse to be on top, go for it! lol

  • As i get bigger with pregnancy, the missionary position gets very uncomfortable for me.  I can feel a heaviness in my chest and stomach.  I don't know how else to explain it, but right now it still feels ok.  Just listen to your body.

  • We stopped missionary position around 20 weeks when it became too uncomfortable and I was getting to distracted by my paranoia of whether the baby was ok.

  • The term traditional just killed me. I actually snorted at my desk.

  • I agree. I doubt you will be on your back for hours during your "traditional" .........hats off if you are but I also heard its fine as long as your DH doesnt put his body weight on your tummy during.....

  • DH has already abandoned the missionary position. Last time we tried it he stopped and was like "I'm afraid to lean forward b/c i might put pressure on your belly"

I find doggy style to be more comfortable anyways so, it's whatever to me.
