Speaking of Target's lame attempt...

So my blog is called The Gooseberry Patch (named after my dog). Well apparently there is a mail order catalog that has a similar name. Gooseberry Patch Co. Well their director of marketing stalked my blog and sent me a message to call her. I was like huh? I called anyway. They want me to change the name of my blog and offered me $100 of free merchandise if I did. WTF. I would be excited if they sold stuff I liked but they don't. The lady has emailed me everyday since we spoke on the phone last week. You would think their customers would be able to tell the differance between a lady talking about her life and a mail order catalog blog. Geesh

    I used to work in a marketing dept at on old company about 10 years ago.  We actually had people surf the net for other companies, etc with similar names to ours and do the same thing...ask them to change it.  It had something to do with how the search engines prioritized certain sites with similar names, so that their company would always be at the top.

    Tami, the lovely lady that keeps emailing me, wants my blog title to not have gooseberry in it at all. I would be all over it if they offered me a visa giftcard or something but they want me to spend the money on their stuff. So I decided that I'm going to be a brat and keep my blog the way it is.

    You should out them on your blog. Write a post about how the marketing department (or post her name) of gooseberrypatch.com keeps emailing you to change the name of your blog so they can get more business. You're I work in PR...we could make this a PR mess for them. bwahahahaha!! (evil laugh)

    Also I have no idea why they're even bothering you. Their company is what comes up in the first 2 pages when you google "gooseberry patch."

    I'm glad you guys agree. DH was starting to make me feel a little guilty. That feeling has gone away now.

    Unless they have it trade marked, I don't think they can do anything.  I'd tell them to grow up and deal with it.  Are they going to offer this to everyone who puts Gooseberry Patch on something?
