Diarrhea question...

Alexander has been having diarrhea since he woke up from a nap.  It's light yellow and extremely smelly.  It seems to be hurting his tummy when it comes out...it's bubbly and gassy.  (BTW, should I have put TMI on this one?).  When your LO has diarrhea, do you call the pedi right away or wait and see what happens?  FWIW, he does not have a fever and he is drinking (out of bottle...but if it gets fluids in him I'm ok with it) right now. He had very little appetite yesterday and this morning, and I think maybe it was because he had a very sour stomach. Anyway, any advice is greatly appreciated!

  • No advice, but that sounds like no fun! Hope he feels better soon.

  • I think when it comes to diarrhea, TMI is implied Wink

When J gets diarrhea, I just wait it out and see what happens. Most likely A probably has a little virus or tummy bug that will probably run it's course over the next 24 hours or so. Just keep giving him fluids and don't be too concerned if he doesn't want to eat. Your main focus is to make sure he doesn't get dehydrated. GL and I hope he feels better soon!

Isaac gets diarrhea quite a bit - mostly due to food irritants which we are slowly figuring out.  I normally just try to keep him hydrated and let it runs it's course.  My sister is a nurse and recommends acidophilus - but make sure it's the refrigerated kind or she's says it is no good.  We get the capsules you can open and dump into the kids' drinks.  That seems to help get their little digestive systems back to normal quicker.  Maybe that would help.

    Good luck!

  • I agree with pp. as long as no fever and no vomiting probably just a virus.... Keep him hydrated and the barrier cream on so his hiney doesn't get oo rashy. hopefully he feels better soon!
