Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Mamas of 2 month olds..

When does your LO go down for bed?  We used to start bedtime routine at 9 pm but lately DD has been getting fussier around  8-8:30 so for the past few days we have been starting the routine around then.  Well anyways, DD was asleep in her crib at 9:15 last night, woke up at 3:30 to eat, back down at 4:30 and then I had to WAKE HER UP at 9:30 because I knew she would be hangry (hungry and angry) if I let her sleep too much longer...

Do I need to start an earlier bed time if shes sleeping so much??

Re: Mamas of 2 month olds..

  • She goes between 9 and 10pm. We start the routine at 6:30 ish with bath, then she feeds for about 2h. She wakes up between 2-3 am and then nurses for about 30 min, the she wakes up again between 5:30-7 am and is up for the day.

  • My little one wants to start bedtime around 8 or 8:30 most nights. Which includes jammies (and song), face/hand washing, bottle then bed around 9:30. She used to get up between 2 and 4 for a bottle then sleep till 6 or 7am depending on the time of the bottle. The last 2 nights have been slightly different since she hasn't been waking for that night time bottle until 5:30 or 6.

  • We actually don't have a bedtime for DD yet... We've tried putting her down in her crib and then using a monitor while we have some adult time, but she wakes up VERY unhappy, so we've just kept her with us until we go to bed, usually about 10:00. Most nights she falls asleep on my lap at about 7:30, and then wakes up when we change her diaper and swaddle her for bed. She goes right back under, wakes up 2-3 times during the night, and then gets up for the day at 7:30.

  • We don't have a routine down yet. Bed time at this age really depends on your schedule. Do what works best for you. I try between 8:30 and 9 because of our works schedules but sometimes she does what she wants.

  • I was starting around 9, but the same thing happened.. My daughter was getting cranky earlier. We start at 8ish, bath, PJs, stories, she eats and is in bed at 9, she is sleeping for 8-10 hours at night, when she starts sleeping till 8am i will back her bed time up to 8pm (starting at 7) but as of right now this is working!!

  • We were starting our routine of bath, bottle, and bed between 8:30 and 9:00 but he's started getting fussy a little earlier so we start between 8:00 and 8:30 now. He's usually in bed around 9:30 and will sleep until 7:00am-ish.
  • I would start an earlier bedtime if she's getting fussy. Try it and see! Just go 15-30 minutes earlier and see how that goes, and you can keep going backwards if you need. Baby sleep is opposite, the earlier you put them down the longer they will sleep. And the better rested they are, the better they sleep. "Sleep begets sleep" From what I've found, if he gets fussy, I've waited too long. I look for when he gets "still", and starts just kind of staring. His activity level will drop at this time too.

DS (2.5 months) has started going down at 7 the past few nights, and last night he slept until 3AM. I could not be happier! We've had some pretty major sleep issues and it has been my project this week to get him 'caught up' on some missed sleep. It seems to be paying off. By 3-4 months they should have a 7PM-7AM schedule (with 1-2 wakings for feed), so it would make sense they start migrating towards that now.

  • We start around 730 or 8. Bath or lotion massage, jammies, swaddle, boob, bed. He's usually asleep by 9. Most nights wakes up at 330 or 4 to nurse but yesterday I had to wake him at 545a to nurse because I was so uncomfortable.

  • Down anywhere from 9-10 and then usually wakes around 1-2 and then again around 5.  Although last night he went from 10 - 5:30 without waking!!  1st time ever!!

  • I get DD1 to bed around 8ish and then DD2 will get a diaper change, swaddled and nursed around 8:30. Sometimes it takes a lot of bouncing and walking to get her down. Last night we finally got her down after nursing her again around 10ish and rocking her until she finally passed out at 10:30ish. Usually she sleeps until 6:45am with some nights she wakes around 3 to nurse. Some nights however, she goes down after nursing and doesn't wake up. It really just depends.

  • We put DS to bed around 9-9:30. He's usually sleeping before that but I feed him around 8:30-9 every night, then put him to bed in his crib for the night. He usually doesn't wake up until 3-4 and then again when I feed him before daycare.

  • First off I love your term hangry...very clever...

my LO goes to bed usually around 8..sometimes a lil later, his bedtime use to be 9...but like you he use to start sometimes getting a lil fussy around 745 but but by 815 he's just not a happy camper so i pushed his bed time to 8...if he's happy & playful I'll let him stay up longer but if he starts getting fussy its straight to bed!! And I know its cause he's exhausted because he doesn't put a fight going to sleep..

  • DS goes to bed between 7:30-8:00. Wakes up b/t 12-12:30 to eat. Goes back to sleep and then wakes up at 3:30 ish to eat again. He wakes up a final time at 6 am, then I get him dressed and ready to go to the babysitter.

Lucky!! I wish LO would stay asleep that long.

  • Mine gets bath at 8ish and bottle and bed by 9ish. She has been sleeping until 5:30, but occasionally she wakes up at 3:30 to eat and back down within 15 mins. She usually is up for the day when I head to work at 8. Needless to say, we've been majorly blessed with sleep! :)
  • We used to do 9PM too, and a couple of weeks ago DD transitioned to an 8-8:30 bedtime.

  • Same here with the getting fussy earlier, so she used to go down around 9pm, but now it's closer to 8pm and she has to be woken up at 6am to eat and go to daycare.
