OMFG...
Teaching my 8 week class over the spring did not prep me for going back to work. I am now teaching three class and already feel behind. The crazy thing is that I'm still working "part time" according to the college...
I told DH that I am feeling like a failure already. I'm either not paying attention to Scott when I try to work at home and feel like a bad mom....or feel like a bad professor for being so disorganized/behind with my class. DH said that's a mom thing.
So true! How are you finding a good balance? Cookies to those who understand my sleep deprived ramblings....
Re: Finding Balance.
I picked up some part time short term project work over the summer and it was a lot tougher than I thought it would be! I also felt very disorganized, especially in the beginning, before I found a groove and schedule that worked for us.
One thing that really helped was spending a few minutes on basic meal planning on Sundays, and doing batch cooking whenever I could. For example, if I made DD pancakes for breakfast on Sunday, I'd make a double batch and then heat up the leftovers for her throughout the week. I'd make a little extra for dinners so DD and I could have the leftovers for lunch the next day. For casseroles, make two - one to eat that night, and one to freeze for another night. And I didn't do super serious meal planning, it was more that I would take inventory, think about a few meals that I could make with what we had on hand, and then make a quick grocery list for the missing ingredients that I would need.
The other thing that made a difference was simply asking DH for help and to take on a little more responsibility for the house and for DD. For example, instead of me coming down to do the dishes after putting DD to bed, I'd ask him to do them (instead of him just sitting and watching TV) so I could jump right into putting in some time working. Little things like that really helped reduce stress for me.
You'll figure out what works for you and your family, don't beat yourself up over it! I'm sure you'll figure out a good routine in no time
