Doppler frustrations

I got my Doppler sinoline b about 3 days ago and have used it every day since then, but don't think I've been able to find the heart beat. I've picked up something in the 140's but thought this was too low to be baby. It's becoming frustrating and making me begin to worry. Anyone else not able to find the heart beat? I'm 9 weeks today.

Re: Doppler frustrations

  • This still early to hear the heartbeat , I went to the Dr yesterday and I was 13 weeks, even then it took the nurse a little while to find it.

This is why I won't buy a Doppler, all it would do is make me worry

  • I bought my doppler about 3 weeks ago. Last night, 11w3d, was the first time I found the heartbeat.

  • I am 8w and 5d today. It was the first day that I've tried to use my doppler. I think I heard a few flickers of babys heartbeat but it was so hard to tell! (I found mine and listened to it for a while..68!! haha) I know its kind of early so I was just playing with it today to see what I could find. It sounded like baby was moving around like crazy though, so I took comfort in the fact that although I couldn't hear babys heartbeat I could hear baby moving (I think... I would leave the doppler in one spot and could hear lots of "movement" I could be really wrong though!)

  • My doctor couldn't find the heartbeat on the doppler Monday and I was 10 weeks.  My doctor stated she normally doesn't find the heartbeat until 14 weeks with the doppler.

  • I have had issues - I find it, then can't find it later for DH and I wish I could because I want to share it with him too...

9 wks is a bit early - most dopplers say you won't find it until 12 wks... plus - I think I bought the wrong kind of doppler, it is annoying me LOL I got the angelsounds one from Amazon instead of the Sonoline B - should have read reviews on here before the purchase... =(

I look at it this way - the Doppler doesn't tell me if baby's <3 is beating or if it isn't - it's a bonus if I hear it... and if I don't - I don't... try again in a few days... It isn't necessarily a diagnostic tool in my opinion because being at home, and not being skilled to use it, and it being a lower quality than the office Dopplers - you can't take it 100% for accuracy...

Calm Down - Carry On - try again later...

  • 9 weeks is really early, yes people do find it but it takes a lot of time and if the baby is facing in the wrong direction you won't hear it. Last pregnancy I didn't find it until 12 weeks. This time I heard it for a split second at 9.5 weeks and can find it easier now at almost 12 weeks. My Dr couldn't even find it at 11 weeks and did an u/s
  • Have you watched videos on youtube to learn how to distinguish the sounds? I have found that really helpful.

I tried to find the hb at 8w1d with no success but was able to find it at 8w5d.  It took very slow searching and now I am able to find it pretty quickly.  For me, I am usually able to find it very near the "woosh woosh" of what I think is the placenta (or so I read).

However, it is definitely not uncommon to not be able to hear it that early on. Most doctors won't even attempt a doppler until later on bc of this.  Just keep trying, be patient and eventually you will!

All of this!  I wouldn't be able to tolerate not finding the heartbeat, so I leave it to the experts.  Smile

All of this but especially the bolded--I knew before buying my doppler that I wouldn't be able to find it every.single.time, especially in the beginning.  I found it once right at 9 weeks and haven't been able to find it since (only tried two other times) but my u/s confirmed a healthy LO with a nice strong HB so I am okay with that.
