Sippys and Milk

How much milk (formula, bm, or wcm) is LO drinking these days? Has everyone weaned to sippies yet?

DS is almost done transitioning from formula to soy milk ... we're taking it pretty slow because of previous allergy issues. Not really using a sippy yet and actually seems to have a true fear of it and we've tried every style imaginable, ha ha! So we are still bottle bound but working on it ... he's still getting 3 8oz bottles a day which I'm thinking is a bit much with all the food he eats.

Re: Sippys and Milk

  • We use sippys and bottles. We can see L is preferring the sippy though.

*Also he drinks WCM and Water

  • Alex is on WCM. He gets sippy cups of water and bottles of milk currently.

He drinks 3 bottles, usually about 6-8 oz each.

  • L was done with both formula and bottles around 11 1/2 months.  They both went at one time.  He was over the bottle and I was over formula and refused to mix it to put in sippies.  I checked with the pedi who was thrilled that he was done with bottles and perfectly fine that he was done with formula.
I also asked how much milk/water he should be getting and was told "as long as he has a wet diaper every 3-4 hours he's getting enough".  Depending on the day he will drink more or less but on average he will drink a 10oz sippy of water, and ~15 oz of milk.

  • DD is bottle and formula free, she will be 1 tomorrow. She hasn't had a bottle or formula in about two weeks. DD gets milk and water in her sippy cup sometimes I feel like she isn't getting enough but she has plenty of wet diapers so I am not worried.  Just glad it was easy to break her of the bottle the binkie is going to be harder especially with DS due in November.

  • they get 16-24 oz of milk a day depending on how much they take. We offer 6 oz 4x. Sippies and straw cups during the day, bottle before bed. Sometimes they get a little water and/or apple juice.
  • We are still bottle-feeding formula. Her bday is tomorrow and doctor's appointment next week, so we will start the milk transition then.

She drinks water and the occasional juice (for constipation mostly) out of straw sippys and does great. She has water in a sippy at every meal and throughout the day.

I'm hopeful we can make the transition to cold cow's milk easily. I'm going to try just flat-out introducing it (no mixing with formula) first. If that doesn't work I will have to mix it. But she won't be taking milk in a bottle; I'm ready to be done with that. (We will start with one sippy of cow's milk a day and work our way up to wherever we need to be - right now she does four bottles 20-26 oz total).

  • We did the transition from formula to milk 2 days after DS turned one. No issues and he loves whole milk. The transition from bottles to sippys is not going as well :(

He's not great with the cups and only really takes about 1 ounce a day from them, so we still do the morning and evening milk in a bottle to make sure he gets enough.

This cup is fabulous and really helped him to learn how to drink from a straw cup. Warning - it leaks a ton so I haven't served him milk in it. He loves drinking water from it though!

Same here! DS will be 1 next week and DD is due in November ... I don't see him giving up that paci anytime soon but at least now he really only wants it during naptime, bedtime, or if he's in a new environment that makes him nervous.

Daycare just called and said they got him to take 2 drinks out of a sippy during snacktime which is quite an accomplishment. Never thought I'd have a kid that is terrified of a cup, lol.

  • We are now on all WCM.  He gets milk 4 times a day.  The first three times he uses sippy cups, but his milk before bed is in a bottle.  He takes a long time to drink milk from a sippy, so I'm not sure how to use it before bed.  For now I'm good cuddling with him before bed and giving him the bottle.
  • We still BF about 4x per day so I'm not sure exactly how much she's getting. She gets a sippy of water all throughout the day and at meals. She hasn't really taken to WCM yet, but I haven't been very persistent. She's only had like 2 bottles in the last 3 weeks because I've been off of work and she's been with me. Not sure how many she'll have next week because I'm going back to work. :/ We shall see I suppose.
