MFM - co-managed care?

I just saw the recommended MFM for the first time this week and absolutely loved him. I live in South Jersey and the local hospital that my OB delivers out of is not equipped to deliver triplets. His practice delivers out of a hospital in Philly. When I left I recieved a bunch of forms to fill out prior to my next appointment, typical new patient forms.

I just received a phone call from my OB office asking if I was having co-managed care or completely transferring to the MFM.  I assumed I was having co-managed but now am confused?

What did you do?  BTW, right now my appointments are staggered so I see each once a month but am going to a doctor every 2 weeks.

Re: MFM - co-managed care?

  • I just had my first appt with the MFM yesterday.  I will be seen by a team of MFMs who will coordinate all of my care and delivery.  My OB dumped me the day of my ultrasound, stating they didn't handle triplets.  I feel much more comfortable with the team I have now and I like that I only have to go to one place for all appts.  If your MFM can also coordinate the delivery, I see no reason to see on OB.  Why add in the extra visits?  And from my experience with a previous pregnancy (10 yrs ago), the OB really didn't do too much at each appt.

  • I only saw a MFM group my OB told me she would not see me after found out about the triplets. I was very lucky and the hospital I went to is the largest in the area and even has a multiples clinic every Friday morning so they were wonderful.
