We are finally upgrading to a convertible car seat (we live in the city without a car, so we've been able to get by on the infant/travel system car seat until now). I am looking for something that is fairly easy to use and not huge (we will have a compact car). Any advice or recommendations are appreciated - thanks!
Re: convertible car seat
Absolutely love our Evenflo Triumph 65 LX. I have a ford focus, and DH is 6'6", and can still drive with J rear facing. The strap adjustment system is amazing.

You can go to BRU and test out different seats to see how they fit in your car too.
We have the same seat and it is great. We drive a VW Jetta, and it fits well RFing behind the driver. My 2.5 year old is still RFing in it, and even thought she's in the 80+ percentile for height still has room to grow before we need to turn her.

We LOVE Britax for Convertible and Convertible Booster, but they are pretty big and heavy. We also have the Cosco Scenera (as PP mentioned) in my mom's car, it's lightweight and does the job for short trips around town, but is not very comfy or cushy and probably wouldn't be good for a longer trip.
I used to live in NYC and heard a lot of moms talk about Sunshine Kids and Radian (sp?) for lightweight and compact city living... might be worth looking into
