I have not introduced plates to my twins yet at meal time. I put the food on their high chair tray.
Since they love to throw food and cups and forks off the tray and watch them hit the floor and clap (!?!), I don't think now would be a good time to try plates, but thought I would ask.
Was wondering when is the appropriate age?
They have been using forks for awhile and just recently are getting good at stabbing food and getting it to stick on the fork tines.

I found that my girls do better with plates!
We started about a month ago. He does really well with it - which surprised me. He does try and push it off his high chair when he is done though, so we try and keep an eye on that.
Once we introduced the plate, he also stopped throwing his sippy on the floor. So it has actually improved our dinnertimes!
Yes, DD2 uses a plate.
When DD1 was this age she would throw her plates. They make toddler plates w/ a rubber bottom but they were a PITA to stick together. I switched to paper plates and taped them to the table.
This is what Chloe does too. And then if the food is right she'll start finger painting her tray...
Yes, DS uses a plate. THere are definitely times he tries to throw it on the floor but I'm usually sitting right next to him and can stop him before it's too late.

This is exactly what E does. She doesn't throw the plate, just dumps what is left of the food on to her tray and hands me the plate.
When we go out to eat, I take one of her plates with us. She typically doesn't dump the plate while out to eat, she is too excited to try new things, the kid loves food!
