Daycare recs? (And an intro!)

Hi all!

I usually hang on MM, but since DH and I are planning on TTC soon, I thought I'd check in here. Rumor has it that finding good daycare in Seattle is tough given all of the long waitlists, so we thought we'd start checking things out before I'm pregnant.

Any advice? Places we should scope out? We're looking for either the NE Seattle area (home is Ravenna, DH's work is in Greenlake) or north Capitol Hill (my work).

Tips on nanny shares or other care arrangements would also be great. Thanks so much!

Re: Daycare recs? (And an intro!)

  • Welcome!  I wanted to say hi because I also live in Ravenna and am getting ready to TTC.  Sounds like you are on top of things if you are already looking for daycare.
  • Loading the player...
  • There is Bright Horizons in U Village (we live in Greenlakey/Maple Leafy area)

But it's got a LONG wait list - so get on it now - It's fabulous there - but also $$$$$!!!

If money is a concern try PineHurst on 35th, in Wedgwood...

  • Thanks!

We'll look into Pinehurst--I think getting to UVillage every day might be a little tough.

I wish more daycares had websites--it's tough to find even basic info.

  • No recs, but welcome! I'm sure Hugo will make a great big brother.
  • Welcome to the dark side.  We're still trying to sort out child care, so I'll just post our adventures as we have them.
  • I'd recommend getting on all waitlists A.S.A.P. My husband and I live in lower Queen Anne, and have "casually" been looking for daycare since we found out we were pregnant.  We probably called about 20-30 daycares (almost all of them centers vs. at-home daycares), and they all had a 1-2 year waitlist for infants.  A lot of the places even charge a $50-$100 fee to be put on the waitlist.

I lucked out a few weeks ago thought and found one available infant spot at the Northgate Kindercare for August 2009 at $1,360/month.  I would have preferred the Kindercare Downtown, but the director told me they have 80 families on the waitlist, and tuition was $1,700/month.

    Good luck!
