October 2011 Moms

All of the sudden she's a picky eater.::

So A has always been a good eater, loves veggies, fruits, pasta etc. It seems almost overnight she has become a crazy picky eater. All of my "go to" foods are now on Ashlynn's list of yuck foods. Right now she will only eat a handful of items and every single new thing I've introduced she's vetoed violently. Is the a phase? Anyone else have a picky eater?

She just scraped cheese tortilini out of her mouth with her hand.

  • Yeah, DD has been this way today. Yesterday she would eat everything under the sun. Today, we don't want anything. I just figured it has something to do with her teething. She is incredibly clingy today as well.

  • Ditto the teething. Also sometimes DS wants food in a particular form. We are doing both finger food and thick pures. I find if he rejects one totally he will often gladly accept the other. I tried finger foods for lunch today and no go but he let me feed him sweet potatoes, broccoli, chicken and quinoa.

  • Honestly, I don't know why I didn't put two and two together. She's teething something fierce! I hope she goes back to eating regular soon, I have always dreaded the picky eater!

  • Yes,  the teething thing is something I only recently put together. DD is also teething something fierce. Here's hoping those teeth pop through soon and we have babies that go back to their normal selves!

  • My son used to love all foods, and right around 1 year, he began getting his molars. He then became an extremely picky eater. My only go-to foods were grains and fruit. Everything else was hit or miss, and almost always miss.

He was a terrible eater until 2.5. Right around Amelia's birth, he began eating much better. Some meals are still tough, and he's the slowest eater on the planet, but he will actually take a bite of everything on his plate now (he doesn't always finish, but our rule is 1 bite of everything).

If I could go back in time, I would let go of the food issue. We had a year of frustrating meals, and we could have enjoyed meals so much more if we weren't so stressed about his eating habits.

I'm glad you wrote this. Ashlynn is getting her molars, so this must be similar to your son. I find myself increasingly frustrated that cheese, fruit and waffles are all she will eat. I will keep in mind to just relax more because I could see myself hold on to this issue as well.
